Marie Catherine "Catherine" Long1,2,3,4
F, #601, b. 27 January 1786, d. 12 March 1862
Parents
BASIC FACTS
Marie Catherine "Catherine" Long was born on 27 January 1786 in Hanover, York Co., Pennsylvania.1 She was born on 23 March 1798.5 She died on 12 March 1862, at age 76.6 She was buried in Saint Matthews Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hanover, York Co., Pennsylvania (V) (See note.)6 Marie Catherine "Catherine" Long had reference number 602. She resided in Lived in York County, Pennsylvania.1 She was enumerated on the census in York County, Pennsylvania (1850, 1860.) I have not yet discovered how Newland determined that Marie Catherine "Catherine" Long married Henry Overdeer. (The 1846 final settlement of Henry Dewald's estate lists her as Catherine Overdeer.) There are certainly references to several Overdeers in Dewald records.
Newland gives Marie Catherine's birthdate as January 27, 1786, with her baptism just one month later. Douglas DeVault Roseborough's genealogy gives a birthdate of March 23, 1798. I don't think this is the correct date as the birth date is too close to the birthdate for Catherine's sister Susan (Long) Bixler.
There seems to be no census records that list a Henry Overdeer as the head of household. There is a record in the 1850 Census for Manheim Township, York County, Pennsylvania for the family of a Samuel Overdeer. Below the list of Samuel's children is an entry for a "Cath" Overdeer, probably Samuel's mother. She is shown as 60 years of age; our Catherine would have been about 62 years old in 1850. This may or may not be our Catherine.
Mary Catherine's stone, and the others at St. Matthew Lutheran Church have been destroyed. Around 1975, all the stones around the church were buried in a hole about where the rear parking lot now stands. Today the official church position is that the cemetery was abandoned. I guess that is technically correct. Since the cemetery belonged to the church and was on church property, the church could legally declare it abandoned. She was baptized on 26 February 1786 in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, York Co., Pennsylvania.

Remember ye who do pass by
Just don't forget you have to die.
I once did live on earth with thee
Until the Lord did call for me.
Note: An old DeVault Genealogy prepared prior to 1933 said that Samuel was married to Kate Bonard. I suspect that this was the same person as Catherine Finkbohn. Samuel and Catherine appear to have lived in Pennsylvania and nearby Frederick County, Maryland until all their children were born. In the 1850 Census, they are shown living in Carrol County, Maryland. Samuel died there in 1854 and Catherine died there in 1865.
There are several genealogies that show a Joseph Kitzmiller (b. 1828 in Maryland) as a son of Samuel and Catherine. I think these genealogies are in error. Census records show that this Joseph Kitzmiller was actually born Jan 1839 in Maryland. He was the son of Adam Kitzmiller and Lydia (Unknown) House-Kitzmiller.
Information on sons Hiram and Abdiel Kitzmiller was give to Newland DeVault by Mrs. Nicholas Kupsco (Edith Marie Roemer).
