MAR. 26, 1983. Dutch Nagle reported the following:
At one time Daniel lived at Bachmanville, two miles east of East Berlin, Pennsylvania
He was a master carpenter. Later he moved to York, Pennsylvania and lived either in or next to his son's (Claude) Nagle Table Factory on King Street
Dan and Amanda set up houskeeping in Abbottstown and show up in the federal census in 1870 along with their first child Homer. (Dan is listed as a farmer.) Dan and wife, Amanda, left Abbottstown in 1885 when baby, Grover Emmert, was only a few months old. Dan was a part-time carpenter and also was employed as a laborer in York's expanding manufacturing market. In 1891, Amanda's father died and she inherited sufficient money to be able to build a frame house in the 700 block of West Philadelphia Street in York. Daniel and his brother Israel were the carpenters and were aided by Dan's son Solomon.
Sometime between this time and 1900, a disagreement developed between Amanda and Daniel which led to Daniel's moving out and never returning. They were never divorced. The reason for the disagreement is unknown.
Daniel lived at the table/chair factory until he died. Amanda lived as a recluse in her house until her death.
