WOMAN EXPIRES ON HER BIRTHDAY
Mrs. Prudent [sic] Amelia Strausbaugh Dies Of Effects Of Burns Received Wednesday
SAY PIPE WAS CAUSE
Death came at 3:45 a.m. Saturday to Mrs. Prudent Amelia Strausbaugh, 1403 West King street, West York, widow of William A. Strausbaugh, on her eighty-third birthday anniversary. The aged woman's death was caused by burns received Wednesday night when her clothing accidentally caught fire while sitting in the dining room of her home.
Coroner I. U. Zech learned in his investigation that the elderly woman had been smoking. It is believed she fell into a doze and that the hot embers accidentally ignited her clothing. Before the flames could be extinguished by her sons, James and John, she had received sevier burns to her hips, legs and arms. She was not removed to a hospital because of her serious condition.
Surviving are eight children, Charles, James and John, all at home; Emory, of Newberrytown; Mrs. John Ziegler, Mrs. Martin Paul, Mrs Edward Frey and Miss Sallie Strausbaugh, York; a grandson, who resided with the aged woman; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Landis, this city, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Strausbaugh was a member of st. Stephen's Reformed church.
The body was removed to the funeral establishment of A. F. Keller, West York. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon. Short services will be held at the house at 2 o'clock, followed by further services at St. Stephen's Reformed Church. Rev. H. F. Boyer will officiate. Interment will be in Greenmount cemetery.
