OBITUARY - James Harrison "Jim" Hall (second husband of Glenda Rhea Fortner)
James "Jim" Harrison Hall, 85, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 at John M. Reed Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. His devoted wife, Glenda was by his side. Jim grew up in Limestone but moved to Johnson City when he was young. Following the death of his father he started working at the age of 12. Jim held many jobs but was most known to be "The Milkman" for Foremost Dairies and Pet Dairies for over 30 years. He served as Steward for Teamster Local Union #549, Blountville, TN. Jim also worked after retirement for Best Western and Harris-Tarkett in maintenance and security. He was known for his sense of humor, gift of gab and a fondness for the ladies. Jim was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He was a wonderful husband and father and a doting grandfather.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, David Leonard Hall and Amanda Anderson Stout; his step-father, Sherman Stout; siblings, Patsy Jane West, Dorthea Hall and Billy Jack Hall; a son, Paul Devault; his children's mother, Peggy Hall.
Survivors include his faithful wife, Glenda Fortner Hall; a son, J.D. Loveland of California; daughters, Kathy Lee and husband, Don of Kingsport and Joy Thacker of Greeneville; step-children, Linda Carrera of Johnson City, Teresa Davis and husband, Steven of South Carolina and Justin Devault of Virginia; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; a special great-grandson, Connor Devault; a brother, Eugene "Pete" Hall and his wife, Marie of Texas; a brother-in-law, Wild Bill West of Florida; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hall of Texas; his companion and friend for 13 years, Scruffy; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Jim will be conducted at 6:00 PM Thursday, September 3, 2015 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Ms. Charlene Elliott officiating. Special music will be provided by Will Taylor. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Other times at the home of a step-daughter, 201 Hamilton Street, Johnson City; Graveside services will be held Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those attending you are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.

JOHNSON CITY - Glenda Rhea Fortner DeVault Hall, 70, of Johnson City, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Glenda was a native of the Siam Community in Elizabethton. She was a daughter of the late Rhudy A. and Mamie Estep Fortner. She was a lifelong member of Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church. Glenda was loved by all who met her. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to so many, proving you don't have to be blood to be family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hall; son, James Paul DeVault; sister, Irene Shurling; and brothers, David, Larry, Worley, Lloyd, and Jimmy Fortner. Survivors include: five children, Linda Gail Carrera, Teresa Rhea Davis (Steven), Justin Eugene DeVault, Kathy Lee (Don), Joy Thacker, and JD Loveland; 11 grandchildren, Amanda Marie Carrera, Matthew Eugene Carrera, Dakoda Carrera, Michael Bales (Katie), Kristen N. Bales, Amber Ruth DeVault, James Patrick, James Connor DeVault, Brandon Britt, Jacqueline Quillen (Nick), and Russ Thacker; 14 great grandchildren, Mamie Marie, Jacoby Kyle, Jonathon Thomas, Mary Katherine, Nakoda Nevaeh, Waylon James, Logan, Evan, Kayla, Katie, Natalie, Vivian, Maggie, and Lisa; two brothers, Bruce and Earnest Fortner; one sister, Fannie Mae Gosnell; special sister-in-law, Trula Bell Fortner; cherished lifelong friend, Charlene Elliott; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Glenda Hall will receive friends from 4 pm to 6 pm Thursday, April 21, 2016 in the Morris-Baker Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 6 pm Thursday. A committal is scheduled for 1:30 pm on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Patricia "Trish" Shipley DeVault, age 59, of Bristol, VA, became a heavenly angel on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born June 2, 1953 in Johnson City, TN and she was a daughter of the late James and Ruth Honaker Shipley and lived most of her life in the Bristol area. She was a front end manager for Food City on Euclid Avenue, Bristol, VA.
