She was a native of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and came to Johnson City in 1934. She was a member of the Westerly Heights Baptist Church and was active in the church training program until ill health forced her retirement.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Irvin; one daughter, Mrs. Bob L. Connors, Johnson City; one brother E. Victor Creed, Portland Oregon; three sisters; Mrs. Rowen Sensabaugh, Canada, Mrs. Alex Blue, Canada, Mrs. William B. Conrad, Detroit, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

Died: 12-09-2003 GRAY - Ruth Mary Irvin Conner, 74, of Poplar Hill Road, Johnson City, died Tuesday due to injuries received in an automobile accident.
She is survived in Greene County by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Allen "Buck" and Sherri Conner of Mosheim.
She retired from the Veterans Administration in 1967.
Mrs. Conner was a daughter of the late Clara Creed and Charles Crumley Irvin and lived most of her life in Washington County.
She was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Bob L. Conner, who died in 1974.
Additional survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Cathy and Bob Dively of Williamsburg, Va.; three other sons and daughters-in-law: Stan "Bo" and Dawn Conner of Johnson City, Larry S. and Linda Conner of Blountville, and Kenneth Lee and Runae Conner of Johnson City; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special first cousin: Marian Spencer of Oberlin, Ohio.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at Gray Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 7 o?clock in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Allen Davis and the Rev. Kenneth Kyker will officiate.
A committal service will be held at 1 o?clock Friday afternoon in Monte Vista Burial Park. The Rev. Donald Paige will officiate.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 12:15 to go in procession to the burial park.
Pallbearers will be David Vest, Bob Wolfe, Johnny Yates, Pernell "Buddy" Jones, Denver King, Arthur Buck, Allen Crowder, and Bob Dively.

Bobby Lee Conner, 47, Rt. 3, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Johnson City Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Conner was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was retired from Thomas Petroleum Products, Inc., due to illness.
He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Liberty Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Foy Conner in 1972.

Dorothy Denny - JOHNSON CITY
Mrs. Dorothy Beard Denny, of Johnson City, died unexpectedly at her residence Monday, December 14, 2009 after suffering an apparent heart attack. She was born June 13, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Alva G. and Bula (Buela) Sylvester Beard. She was a member of the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church for approximately 40 years. She was a graduate of the Johnson City Business College, and worked in the register of deeds office in Jonesborough. She worked in the office of the Pepsi Bottling Company for 35 years, and was office manager for Dr. Larry E. Denny for more than 20 years. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harold A. Beard. She is survived by her husband of 69 years of marriage, Charles E. Denny, son Dr. Larry E. Denny, grandson Dr. Wesley E. Denny and wife Jennifer, Louisville, KY, one great granddaughter, Hannah Lynn Denny, Louisville, KY; three sisters, Marjorie Onks, Virginia Davis, and Carolyn Anderson and husband Robert, one niece, and several nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Denny will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 17 in the Sanctuary of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Taylor and Rev. Michael Lester officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Special Music will be provided by Douglas Grove-DeJarnett and Jane LaPella. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Munsey Church from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble in the church at 1:45 P.M. will be Wallace Taylor, Stan Widner, Harlan Booth, Ben Bailey, Bill Harvey, Tom Carr, Wayne Walters, Dan Mahoney, and Uwe Rothe. Honorary pallbearers will be, Ben Scharfstein, Mike Gover, and Lawrence Porterfield. Mrs. Marjorie ‘Margie” B. Onks, age 94, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at Church Hill Health Care & Rehab.
Mrs. Onks was born in Washington County and daughter of the late A.G. Beard and Beula Sylvester Beard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Onks, Sr., sisters, Dorothy Denny and Virginia Davis and a brother, Harold Beard.
Marjorie was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church. She retired from FSA (ASCS) office, after working for over twenty years. She was known for her cooking and love for flower gardening.
Survivors include a sister, Carolyn Anderson; daughter, Linda Onks Cope and husband Ted; two grandsons, Edwin & Teffany Cope and Aaron and Jessica Cope; four great-grandchildren, Mallory Blake, Nathaniel and Willa Kay Cope; son, Paul Onks, Jr. and wife, Rhonda; step-children, Matt and Brittany Seth and Cori and Olivia Morelock; four step great-grandchildren; and special step-granddaughter, Olivia Barnes.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Church Hill Health Care and Avalon Hospice for their kind and compassionate care given to Marjorie.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Minister David Clark and Minister Dick Morris officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Sunday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens.

Paul Franklin “Jimmy” Onks, Sr., age 89, passed away Tuesday, August 07, 2007, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Cornelius and Ella Huff Onks. Mr. Onks was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Onks and Walter Onks and a sister, Pauline Croyle
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie Beard Onks, son, Paul Onks, Jr. and wife, Susan of Jonesborough, TN; daughter, Linda Onks Cope and husband, Ted of Rogersville, TN; grandsons, Edwin Cope and wife, Teffany; Aaron Cope and wife, Jessica, all of Rogersville and Brandon Barnes and wife, Donna of Jonesborough, TN; great-granddaughters, Olivia Barnes and Mallory Cope.
Mr. Onks was the oldest active member of Boones Creek Christian Church and was a deacon and treasurer of his Sunday School Class. He was a retail coal dealer and merchant for 30 years at Boone Station Grocery. He had been a member of Gray Sinking Creek Lodge F and AM H575 for over 50 years. He was also active in Community Clubs and Boys Little League Clubs. He retired from the Tennessee State Highway Department as materials inspector.
The funeral service for Mr. Onks will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Boones Creek Christian Church with Mr. Charles Reese, Mr. David Clark and Mr. Dick Morris officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00–8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Graveside committal service will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Edwin Cope, Aaron Cope, Brandon Barnes, Scott Utsman, Jason Utsman, Johnny Utsman, Larry Denny and Edward Bowman. Honorary pallbearers will be David O’Roark, Fred Harwood, Buck Harrison, Dan Shipley and Dean Crumley. Those who wish to attend the graveside service should meet at Boones Creek Christian Church at 9:25 a.m.

KINGSPORT Virginia Beard Davis, 84, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Wilcox Hall of Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Virginia was born and grew up in the Boones Creek area. She later moved to the Kingsport area and was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Alva and Bula Beard; husband, James E. Davis; sister, Dorothy Denny; and brother, Harold Beard.
She is survived by her son, Jerry E. Davis and his fiance, Lori Cook, of Kingsport; and two sisters, Carolyn Anderson and Marjorie Onks, both of Boones Creek.

Harold Alva Beard, 73, 1507 Old Boones Creek Road, Jonesborough, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Asbury Center after a lengthy illness.
He was a native of Washington County and a resident of the Boones Creek area for most of his life. He was a son of the late Alva George Beard and Bula Sylvester Beard.
Mr. Beard served in the 40th Infantryman Division of the Army in Korea, and received numerous awards for active participation in ground combat.
He was general manager of Young's Supply Company and a trustee for the U.S. Federal Courts for many years.
Mr. Beard was a member of Marvin's Chapel United Methodist Church.
