BASIC FACTS
John Davalt was born on 2 November 1808 in Sullivan Co., Tennessee.5 He and Julia Ann Blevins were married on 21 March 1833 in Tennessee.5 He died on 13 May 1890, at age 81, in Clark Co., Missouri.6 He died on 14 November 1890, at age 82, in Clark Co., Missouri.7,5 He was buried in Sand Cemetery, Clark Co., Missouri (V.)6 John Davalt had reference number 12719. He resided in Born Sullivan Co., Tennessee; Crawford Co., Missouri (abt. 1838); Clark Co., Missouri (abt. 1842); Lived with daughter Priscella (after 1885.)5 He was a Farmer (1850, 1880.)3,4 He was enumerated on the census in Clark County, Missouri (1850, 1880.) John Davalt always spelled his surname "Davalt" as do all his descendants. As far as I know, John and his descendants are the only descendants of Henry Dewald of Pennsylvania that use this spelling.
John Davalt and Julia Ann Blevins were married in Tennessee. Shortly after the birth of their first child, Samuel, in 1836, John, his young family, and John's brother, Jacob, and Jacob's family moved to Crawford County, Missouri. John's second child, Prudence, was born in Crawford County. By 1841, when their third child, Elizabeth, was born, they had moved to Clark County near the town of St. Francisville. There they lived and died, raising a family of eleven children.
Much of the information about the descendants of John Davalt came to Newland DeVault from Nona May (Summers) Carlton-Darnall. (Newland and several other sources spelled her given name as "Nora.") Additional information came from Marjorie Evelyn (Hill) Hamner, Minta (Walker) Whiston and Hughie Maitland Stump. I received much information on the descendants of Jacob I. "Jake" Davalt from Lynette (Fuchs) Franklin. I got additional family information from Linda Kay (Morris) Davalt, half-sisters, Peggy Lynn (Cassady) Harris and Linda Marie (Pillow) Bilek and Janet Marie (Overlin) Gatrost-Wilcox.
Note: I have seen several references to John Davalt and family living near Jake's Prairie. There are several places called "Jake's Prairie" in Missouri. I think the references I've seen are to the Jake's Prairie in Crawford County. The name does not appear much these days. Here is a little history prepared by Joe L. Miller.
"The legend of Jake Prairie (aka "Jakes's Prairie")
In 1825, at St. Louis, Missouri, the Osage Indians signed a treaty to surrender all land north of the Arkansas border. From this time on they were gradually pushed out west to Indian Territory (Oklahoma). At about 1835, nearly all had been forced out by the settlement of the White Man, except a few remnants who settled from place to place adopting to the White Man's way of life. Legend has it, there was one such Osage Indian Tribe consisting of over 300 cabins, that settled just over the Franklin County line, till they decided to move further north. Among them was an Indian named Jake, who got in an argument, packed up his lone teepee, moved to an area in the northwest part of Crawford County, and stayed there for years. Others who would visit him would say, "Let's go down to Jake's Prairie", to visit Jake. This is how it got its name. "

BASIC FACTS
Julia Ann Blevins was born on 31 August 1812 in Tennessee.4 She was born on 30 November 1812 in Tennessee.5 She was born on 1 December 1813 in Tennessee.6 She and John Davalt were married on 21 March 1833 in Tennessee.7 She died on 22 January 1885, at age 72, in Clark Co., Missouri.7 She was buried in Sand Cemetery, Clark Co., Missouri (V.)5 Julia Ann Blevins was also known as Elizabeth Blevin.6,8 She was also known as Julia Blevine.7 She was also known as Julian Blevins.4 She had reference number 12720. She was enumerated on the census in Clark County, Missouri (1850, 1880.) Several trees on Ancestry.com show various parents for Julia. It appears to me that they are all guesses based solely on Julia's birth uear. Here is what I think. Julia was born in Tennessee in 1812. She was there in 1833 when she married John Davalt. She lived there until about 1837-1838 when she and John moved to Missouri. I suspect that her parents also lived in Tennessee. I doubt that they were just passing through Tennessee when Julia was born and they just left her there. Those families that are shown on Ancestry trees as being Julia's family seem to have moved from Virginia to Kentucky and then to Missouri long before Julia did. What we need to identify Julia's parents is some better evidence such as a bible record or a will.

Anna Marie "Mary" Davault1,2,3
F, #12453, b. 2 November 1795, d. 26 March 1876
Parents
BASIC FACTS
Anna Marie "Mary" Davault was born on 2 November 1795 in York Co., Pennsylvania.1 She and Adam Giesler, Jr., were married about 1815.4 She died on 26 March 1876, at age 80, in Piney Flats, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.5,6 She died on 26 May 1876, at age 80.7 She was buried in Giesler-DeVault-Feathers Cemetery, Piney Flats, Sullivan Co., Tennessee (V.)6 Anna Marie "Mary" Davault was also known as Mary. She had reference number 12721. She was enumerated on the census in Sullivan County, Tennessee (1850, 1860.) Many genealogies show Mary's given name as "Mary Magdalene." I think this comes from copying unsourced information from other genealogies. (I do this a lot myself.) The given name I use is "Anna Marie" and it comes from her baptismal record from Saint Matthews Lutheran Church in Hanover, York Co., Pennsylvania.

The Bible of Jacob and Catherine (Morrell) Gielser says that Mary was born on Nov. 2, 1795 and died on May 26, 1876, aged 80 years, 4 months and 24 days. The Bible's arithmetic is off by two months. The arithmetic on the stone is also off by two months. One thing is for certain - Mary may have died on March 26 or May 26.)

Note: The Mary (1849 - 1880) is possibly their granddaughter, Mary Catherine (Akard) Giesler, wife of William Hicks Giesler, however, she is supposed to be buried in Riley Cemetery, Sullivan Co., Tennessee. A number of genealogies have reported that Adam and Mary had a son, William A., born about 1825 and died before 1860. This is an error caused by the miss-reading of the 1850 census. The William A. mentioned in the census is William Akard husband of Adam and Mary's daughter, Rebecca. Two-year-old Mary is the daughter of William and Rebecca. She was baptized on 22 November 1795 in Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, York Co., Pennsylvania.8

John Burton "Jack" Hinrichs1
M, #12468, b. 14 September 1926, d. 8 December 2009
Parents
BASIC FACTS
John Burton "Jack" Hinrichs was born on 14 September 1926 in Escondido, San Diego Co., California.2 He and Suzanne Irene "Suzy" Redd were married on 11 July 1948 in Glendale, Los Angeles Co., California.1 He died on 8 December 2009, at age 83.3 He was buried in Oak Hill Memorial Park, Escondido, San Diego Co., California.4 John Burton "Jack" Hinrichs had reference number 12736. His Social Security Number was 559-30-1897, issued: California, last residence: Escondido, San Diego Co., California.3 OBITUARY - U-T San Diego, Decemer 23 to 25, 2009 (Find-A-Grave)
When John "Jack" Hinrichs was growing up in Escondido, the family ranch included orange groves and cattle that grazed on property that is now home to Orange Glen High School.
Mr. Hinrichs attended Escondido High School, where he played football and trombone in the marching band. Years later, his love of community and teamwork spurred him to accept an invitation to join the fledgling Rincon del Diablo Municipal Water District board.
After being appointed to the board of directors in 1958, he was elected and re-elected many times, working on area water issues for half a century.
Mr. Hinrichs died Dec. 8 at an Escondido hospital following a long respiratory illness. He was 83.
As an Escondido native and longtime rancher, Mr. Hinrichs understood the importance of water management issues, family and friends said.
"Jack knew everything about water," said Annette Hubbell, former general manager of the water district. "A lot of people didn't realize how much he contributed (to the community). Many don't realize how important water is to a community, they take it for granted. People don't know the legacy he left."
Mr. Hinrichs played a role in establishing the Rincon del Diablo Fire Protection District to provide services to the unincorporated areas of the district in the 1970s, and served on the board at a time of tremendous growth.
Dave Keller, engineering manager for the water district, said Mr. Hinrichs cared deeply about his responsibilities.
"He was one of those unusual (elected officials) who was political, but he was a public servant, he was there to do the right thing," Keller said.
Mr. Hinrichs always showed an interest in others, Hubbell and Keller said.
"He was compassionate and he loved Escondido so much," Hubbell said.
Suzanne Hinrichs said her husband was a devoted grandfather who enjoyed taking his grandchildren swimming, traveling to national parks or just out to the family orange and avocado groves.
John Burton Hinrichs was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Escondido to John F. Hinrichs and Margaret Stiff Hinrichs. He graduated from Escondido High School in February 1944, several months early, to join the U.S. Navy during World War II. He took classes at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and at what was then Chaffey Agricultural College in Ontario.
Mr. Hinrichs and his wife settled in Escondido, where he raised citrus and avocados. He was a member of Rotary and the San Diego County Farm Bureau.
Friends and colleagues believe Mr. Hinrichs was one of the longest-serving elected officials in San Diego County and possibly the state. This year, the water district honored his 50 years of service with a ceremony naming the reservoir on Mary Lane after him.
"He had a keen commitment to the community," said Mitch Dion, general manager of the Rincon water district.
In addition to understanding the value of water to the growth and economic vitality of the community, Mr. Hinrichs also never forgot that there were people who depended on the district board's actions, Dion said.
"He was a real gentleman and a caretaker, he loved people," said longtime friend Charles "Bud" Palmeter, who served on the water district board in the 1960s and 1970s. "He was a highly intelligent guy with a sense of service to the community. He was also a loyal friend."
Mr. Hinrichs enjoyed sportfishing, music and traveling. In addition to taking trips in his motor home with his grandchildren, he traveled to Africa and Europe with his wife of 61 years.
Mr. Hinrichs is survived by his wife, Suzanne; three children, Jim, Sherry Reid and John Jr. of Escondido; a brother, Tom of Escondido; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held Dec. 15 at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido.
