HENRY - Reva J. Black, 95, of Henry, formerly of Cuba and Augusta, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 6:45 a.m. at Heartland Health Care Center in Henry, Ill.
Born Aug. 5, 1915, near Washington, Iowa, to John H. and Mary M. (Kirkpatrick) Coakley, she married William C. Bill Black on June 26, 1937, at Delavan, Ill. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1992.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Schlabach of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Diana (Ken) Williamson of Henry, Ill.; two grandsons, Ron (Ann) Schlabach of Glen Ellyn and John Williamson of Henry; two granddaughters, Lora (Steve) Moynihan of Glen Ellyn and Beth Williamson of St. Charles; and one great-granddaughter, Sara Schlabach of Glen Ellyn.
One son, Kenneth William, died at birth in 1944.
Most of her life, Reva was a homemaker who enjoyed her family and their activities.
She served as leader of several youth organizations in which her daughters were involved, including Polly Pigtails and Girl Scouts. She later organized a youth square dance group that performed as a program for many organizations.
She loved organizing and holding birthday parties and other celebrations.
Reva especially enjoyed sewing and creating clothing for herself, her daughters and her granddaughters. She loved the challenge of trying to simulate designer clothing that she saw in magazines.
Reva was active in her church, where she attended Sunday school and held an office in the women's organizations. She was also active in Federation of Women's Clubs, where she once served as president, and Eastern Star, where she enjoyed her honor as a 50-year member.
She was also a member of other local organizations, such as Home Bureau and parent-teacher organizations, where she also held leadership positions. She developed many friends through those organizations.
A fan of many sports, including baseball, especially the Cubs, horse racing and ice skating, she was an avid golfer and played as often as she could. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, with friends.
Bill and Reva spent many winters in Florida or Arizona, where they developed many close friendships that Reva cherished until her death.
