Leslie C. Lange was born on Nov 5, 1917, in Murdo, SD to Curt and Olive Lange. He died on the Nov 25, 2005, at the Colonnades, a retirement home in Charlottesville, VA., at the age of 89.
He attended Murdo High School, where he was an honor roll student, active in athletics, an in the music department. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1939, where he a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an honorary scholastic society. He received his 50 year pin in the West Gate Adelphi Lodge in West Des Moines, Iowa.
On Aug. 28, 1940, he married Ellen Jaide Lange in the Methodist Church in Pierre. He taught high school mathematics in Fulton, Ill., and Marshalltown, Iowa.
He was employed by the US Treasury for over 30 years and retired from the government at the age of 54.
Les, as he was known to his friends, had a terrific sense of humor. He regaled all who knew him with tall tales about his life in South Dakota. He also loved to parody public figures including his favorite fellow South Dakotan, Lawrence Welk.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his daughter, Bonnie Williamson; two grandchildren, Tyler and Robin Williamson; and his sister, Bianca Watson.
His parents, Curt and Olive Lange, and a brother, Drexel Lange, preceded him in death.
His remains will be buried in the Murdo Cemetery.

Drexel Lange dies of an aneurysm
Drexel D. Lange, 76, a retired state education leader who pushed for improved special-education programs, died of an aneurysm Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Care. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Cemetery in rural Cumming.
Mr. Lange was born in Murdo, S.D., and had lived in the Des Moines area many years. His current address was in the 900 block of 40th Street, West Des Moines. He held several posts with the Iowa Department of Education, including associate superintendent from 1965 until 1986, and helped develop model legislation for special education. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and received a citation for humanitarian service from the United Cerebral Palsy Association.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; two sons, Brian of Knoxville and Greg of West Des Moines; a sister, Bianca Watson of Rohnert Park, Calif.; a brother, Leslie of Charlottesville, Va.; and two grandchildren.

She was a proud member of Printing Specialties and Paper Products Union. She worked for Weyerhauser for 31 years. After retiring she enjoyed traveling. She was able to go to Europe, China, Hawaii, and Florida and trips back to South Dakota and California. Her constant companion was her beloved sister, Joyce. They shared a love of cats including all the stray ones!!

She instilled a love of family and spent many holidays with her brother Glen and his family. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, son Pell Bloedel, sister Joyce Gardner and brother Glen Pell.

Arlene is survived by her daughter Tana (Leonard) Livingston, Yakima, six grandchildren, Jason Livingston, Dustin (Danelle) Livingston and Jenny Everts all of Yakima, Kendra Livingston of Tumwater, WA, Ronnie Bloedel of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Collette Webber of Bothell, WA, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew Ryan Pell and niece Karen Regalado.

Special thanks to Diana Kosmatka and Team 4 at Good Samaritan for all the hugs and kisses you gave her. She truly felt loved by you all.

She was a hard worker all her life and a very special mom, grandma, and aunt. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Her motto was "Live and Learn."

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 4 PM - 8 PM at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. Joyce will be joining her precious daughter, Karla Gardner who preceded her in death in 1984. She leaves behind her beloved son, King Gardner and lovely wife Lynn of Vancouver, Washington; her feline family who meant so much to her, Stubby, Daisy, Taisy, Tess, Lulu, Sonny, and Susie (who now reside in Riverside, CA.); her dearly loved sister, Arlene Blodel; Admired brother, Glen Pell and his dear wife Darlene; and Cherished sister-in-law Patti Peterson.
She is survived by Granddaughter Lisa Scott, husband Jeff and great-granddaughter Carley; Granddaughter Cristy Gavett, husband Scott and great-grand children Hayden and Hailey; Granddaughter Cindy Iles, husband Todd and great-grand children Kayla and Steven; Granddaughter Stacey Thomas, husband Brian and great-grand children Tyler and Torri; Grandson Rob; the family of her late nephew Pell Blodel; niece Tana Livingston and husband Leonard and family; Niece Leann Karr and husband; Nephew Reed Pell; Nephew Roger Pell and family; Nephew Randy Pell and family; and her special Nephew Ryan who is an inspiration to us all.
She will also leave behind her lifelong friend, Gerry Washington and treasured friend Doris Henley and family. Joyce retired in 1989 from K-mart after many years of faithful service. There she will always be known affectionately as "The beautiful Red-head behind the service desk, ready with a laugh and a smile".
She spent her retirement years in constant companionship with her sister; both of them traveling and caring for their beloved pets. She also enjoyed the several opportunities she had to visit with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in both Washington and California.
Joyce was charismatic and vivacious. She had a witty sense of humor and as her special nephew Ryan says "She was more fun than a barrel of monkeys." She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at: Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel, Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at 1:00pm. Joyce will be laid to rest at West Hills Memorial Park. Keith & Keith is in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Richard Phillips, son of Cecil M. and Loala (Kint) Phillips, was born February 17, 1918, in Wayne County, Iowa and passed away April 6, 2012 at the Prime Nursing & Rehab Center in Des Moines.
He was united in marriage to Elverda Louise Rush on September 29, 1941 in Bethany, Missouri. He and Elverda were both life-long residents of Wayne County where they farmed for over 43 years before retiring and moving to Corydon. After Elverda's death in 2005, Wayne remained in his home until November 2009 when he moved to Our House in Corydon.
Wayne was a member of the Corydon First Baptist Church where he had served as a trustee and was also a member of the Men's Fellowship. He was also a member of the N.F.O.
His parents, Cecil and Loala Phillips, wife Elverda and one great granddaughter preceded him in death.
Wayne is survived by his daughter Janet Petty of Des Moines, grandchildren Ruth Alison Weiss and husband Devin of Riverside, New Jersey and Janel Cooper of Crawfordville, Florida, and four great grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother Wilbur Phillips of Marshalltown, brother-in-law Wilbur Rush of Centerville, sister-in-law Wilma Hellyer of Springfield, Missouri, and several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
