Excerpt from The Young Family
By Ruby Ethel Reagan

Being the SENIOR MEMBER STILL LIVING, it is about time I try and remember all the wonderful things about Lona Faye, my oldest sister. There is very little that I remember about Faye because she lived with our aunt and uncle and went to school in Sulphur Springs, Texas from the time that I was very young until she married. Faye would come home on weekends sometime but I was only six years old. She and her husband moved to Corsicana, Texas and they did not come back to visit us until I was about eight years old.
Faye was a beautiful girl, and I remember looking at pictures of her and telling Mom that I hoped that some day I would be that pretty. Faye married a very handsome man, Charles Melvin Boatman, and they had only one child, a little girl who was premature and only lived about one day. They divorced not long after the baby was born, and Faye moved to California. I do not remember seeing Faye again until I was 15 years old. She was married again, and her husband was K.C. Tanis. They took me back to visit with them at Phoenix, Arizona, where they were living at that time. They both worked, and Faye would take me to work with her each day. They took me to California to see her husband’s family. We were there for just a few days, and they put me on a bus and I came back home. We had a good time and that was the most time I had ever spent with Faye since I was just a little girl.
Faye and K.C. would come back to visit Mom and Dad about once every four or five years, but they would go to Commerce, Texas where Mom and Dad lived. Most of the time I would not get to see them because I was in school in Dallas, Texas where I lived with my dear, loving sister, Ruth, and she had to work six days a week.
Faye told me several times that she never wanted any children because she had to help with all of us children when we were born. Therefore, she felt she had taken care of enough kids. Mom was very partial to Faye. When I would do something Mom didn’t like, she would say “Faye would never had done that.”
Faye and K.C. lived with me for four months in 1987. I enjoyed them very much but knew they preferred living with friends they had known since World War II. Faye would write them every day. K.C. would complain every day because he never got to be around any men, and I feel sure he missed all that. They moved to Oklahoma where their friends lived, and they seemed to be much happier. K.C. died there in 1989, and Faye moved back to Dallas and lived in a nursing home until she died in 1990.

Faye
By Kathleen Royer Hale

Faye and KC lived in Oklahoma (I think) when KC passed and Mother brought Faye to live with her in Dallas. Although she tried to provide full time care for Faye, it proved too much for her alone, and within a short time Faye moved to a nearby nursing home. Mother visited with Faye every day there, and eventually sat vigil at her bedside during the last hours at the hospital. I remember her sadness when Faye passed, as she had taken just a quick break from her bedside vigil and Faye passed during the few minutes Mother was gone. I did not know Faye or KC, since they never lived in Dallas throughout my lifetime except near the end. Mother kept a few keepsakes of Faye when she passed , including a dental pick. (Faye had worked as a dental hygienist).

Excerpt from The Young Family
By Ruby Ethel Reagan

Lorena Pearl Reagan was born on January 23, 1908 in Como, Texas. She was the second child of Monroe (Minna) Irvin Reagan (“Paw Paw”) and Ruby Ethel Young Reagan (“Mammy”). I always thought she was just beautiful. Lorena WAS a very beautiful woman and was also a beautiful child. I was very young, only eight years old, when she married and left Como. Therefore, I do not remember her husband, but do remember we moved to Royce City soon after she married. Her husband, Rual Perkins, left her when she was pregnant and she returned home and lived with the family.
I remember very well the night her son, Reagan Ewen (“Buster”) was born. He was a beautiful baby, and we all loved him dearly. I carried him around like he was a doll, and wanted to feed and take care of him. Lorena went to work, and would pay me to sleep with Buster and give him his bottle, and take care of him until she got home from work at night. In those days you would go to work at 8:00 am and not get off until the stores closed that night at 6:00 pm. On Saturday night they stayed open until 9:00 pm. Lorena and Buster lived at home with the family until she married again when Buster was 10 years old. He called Mom “Mammy” and Dad “Daddy”. He grew up with us just as though he was our little brother. He was blue-eyed, and his hair was so blond it was almost white. We all loved him so very much. Lorena’s first marriage to Rual Perkins eventually ended in divorce.
Lorena married Ewen (“Fergie”) Ferguson in 1935 and made their home in Texarkana, Texas. Fergie was in the grocery business, and worked for Safeway Stores until he retired. When they got settled in a place to live they sent for Buster to come, and Mom and Dad didn’t want him to leave. After all, he was their oldest grandchild, and had lived with them all his life. It was hard for them to give him up, but it was only natural that he should live with his Mother. Lorena and Fergie moved to Dallas in 1947, later moving to Richardson.
After Fergie retired from Safeway, he and Lorena moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1969. In 1975, they moved to Fort Worth, where Buster and his children lived. Fergie passed away on July 4, 1976, and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth. Lorena lived her remaining years in Fort Worth and died on August 17, 1988.

Aunt Lorena
By Barbara Jeanne (“Jeannie”) Campbell Slusher

I was very young for the most part when I was around Aunt Lorena, but my memories of her include her distinctive voice and laugh, her sweet disposition and the soft smell of perfume whenever I was around her. From an early age, family members let me know that when others commented that I looked like Lorena that it was a HIGH compliment indeed.

Lorena
By Kathleen Royer Hale

I have few memories of Lorena growing up except to recall her warm smile and gentle manner. Lorena and Bus Ferguson lived in Ft. Worth, but we didn't often see each other except holidays.
