She was a native of Borden and moved to Muncie as a teenager, residing here for the past 51 years.
Mrs. Upchurch was employed at Ball Brothers for 13 years and at Ball State University for 10 years as the dining room hostess at Woodward Hall. She retired from that position in 1979.
She was a member of Industry United Methodist Church, Sunday School Class 14, and the Ball State Sympathy Club.
Surviving are a son, Joe Upchurch, and a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Bird, both of Muncie; a brother, Marvin Boerk, Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Nina Blankenbaker, Tuscon, Ariz., and Bernice Hagest, Jeffersonville; four grandsons and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Parson Mortuary. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and prior to services Sunday.

JEFFERSONVILLE --Charles Leroy Ashton, 71, of 1130 Spring, a retired Pennsylvania Railroad engineer, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Clark County memorial hospital. He was a member of Morton Memorial Methodist church.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Ashton; a son, Charles W. Ashton, Clarksville; a daughter, Mrs. Marcella Kishoski, Tucson, Ariz.; two step-sons, Ralph Kelton, Jeffersonville, and Thomas Kelton, Clarksville; a step-daughter, Mrs. Joyce Habermel, New Albany; a foster sister, Miss Alberta Long, Jeffersonville; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. a.m. Thursday at the Coots Funeral home. Burial will be in the Walnut Ridge cemetery.

CLARKSVILLE -- Charles W. Ashton, 66, of 1922 Wyckshire Court, died Friday at Methodist Evangelical Hospital in Louisville.
He was a native of Jeffersonville, a retired employee at Colgate-Palmolive Co., an Army veteran of World War II, a cub master of Cub Scouts Pack 130 and master of Masonic Lodge 337. He was a member of Morton Memorial United Methodist Church, Clark County Pastmaster Association, Hobart Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, George Rogers Clark Scottish Rite Club, Murat Shrine, York Rite, Clowns of America, Indiana Auctioneers Association and American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include his wife, the former Wilma Ackley; a son, Ron Ashton of Charlestown; two daughters, Mrs. Faith Schneider and Mrs. Phoebe Quick, both of Louisville; a sister, Mrs. Marcella Fenstermacher of Tucson, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, with entombment in Graceland Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation at the funeral home will be after 4 p.m. Sunday.

JEFFERSONVILLE -- Joseph H. Roerk, 31, died Thursday afternoon at Fisher, where he moved three weeks ago. An employee of the navy Ordnance department, he was a native of Speed and had lived in Jeffersonville, where he was a member of Clark Masonic Lodge and Wall Street Methodist church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Sue Roerk; a daughter, Sharon Roerk and a son, Tommy Roerk, both at home; a brother, Paul Roerk of Fort Knox, Ky., and his mother, Mrs. Louise Roerk of Jeffersonville.
The body will be at the Scott Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Friday. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with burial in the Walnut Ridge cemetery.

GLASGOW — David Paul Roerk, 43, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at his residence.
Born in Jeffersonville, Ind., he was the son of Paul E. Roerk of Nebraska and Elizabeth Florence Cawthorn (Lowell) of Glasgow. Mr. Roerk was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Teresa Thomas Roerk of Glasgow; a daughter, Sara Elizabeth Marie Roerk; two step children: Christine Rudenga and Jerrie Terry; four grandchildren: Justin Welsh, Tayshaun Martin, Faith England and Caleb Anorve; a brother: Michael Roerk; and two sisters: Anna Northern and Michelle Cawthorn.
Mr. Roerk chose cremation and a private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
