In May of 1957, Nelson was one of eighteen Indiana Students to compete in the National Science Fair held in Los Angeles, California. Nelson and his exhibit won a forth-place award.

Crash Kills Student
Ithaca Teacher Dies in Collision
ITHACA - Automobile accidents Wednesday claimed the life of an Ithaca teacher and the grandson of an Ithaca couple.
Miss Barbara R. Miller, 32, of Frontenac Road, Trumansburg, was the victim of a collision near Bluffton, Ind.
She was administrative assistant at Glenwood School here and one of three teachers pioneering the pilot continuous progress education plan.
Also killed in the Thanksgiving Eve crash were her sister Mrs. Mary Zinsmeister, and her brother-in-law, Nelson Zinsmeister, of Fredonia.
She is survived by her parents, and a brother, Maj. George Miller of the U.S. Army.
Richard Rockefeller Eastman of Springfield, Va., was killed instantly in an accident in Jamestown, N.D., where he was a freshman at Jamestown College.
Among his survivors are his parents and two sisters and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Eastman of Ithaca. [Note: Richard Rockefeller Eastman is not related to Barbara Miller or the Zinsmeisters.]

School Loses Third Teacher
FREDONIA, N.Y. (AP) - A 50-year-old mathematics teacher at Fredonia school died in a hospital in this Lake Erie Village Sunday of injuries suffered Friday when he was struck by an automobile in Nearby Forestville.
Rudolph L. Miller Jr. of Forrestville was the third member of the school's faculty to die as a result of traffic accidents within the past three weeks.
A husband and wife, Nelson and Mary Zinsmeister, who also taught at the school, were killed over the Thanksfiving weekend in a traffic accident in Indiana. [Note: As far as I know, the Zinsmeisters were not related to Rudolph L. Miller Jr.]
THE MILLER-ZINSMEISTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A memorial fund has been established by the families and friends of Barbara Ruth Miller, Mary Martha Miller Zinsmeister and Nelson Lee Zinsmeister, Manchester College alumni who were teachers. The income from this fund is used to provide a scholarship for any worthy junior or senior who is preparing to teach in elementary or secondary schools. Barbara, Mary, and Nelson lost their lives in an automobile accident on Nov. 25, 1964.
