The 104th birthday of a former Adams countian was marked Thursday at Frey Village Retirement Center at Middleton.
Mrs. Clara Patterson, the former Clara Schwartz, was born in 1874 on a farm near Gettysburg. Thursday she was guest of honor at the center. She is the widow of Rev. Richard Patterson, a Lutheran minister who died in 1930.
According to Mrs. Patterson's grandson, J. Ira Laird, of Mechanicsburg R. 3, Mrs. Patterson's mother heard Lincoln give the Gettysburg Address and her picture can be seen in the Brady photo of the crowd at the dedication of the national cemetery here..

Graveside Services for Mrs. Clara E. Patterson, 104, Middletown, who died Monday were held Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. Rev. Martin L. Tozer officiated.
She was the widow of Rev. Richard S. Patterson and a graduate of Irvin College, Mechanicsburg, class of 1892.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Anna E. Laird of Middletown and Mrs. Dorothy Hoffman of Clayburn, Md., a grandson and two great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Dr. Richard S. Patterson, graduate of Gettysburg College and seminary and pastor of the Salem Lutheran charge in Carroll County, died suddenly Wednesday morning in the parsonage at 162 Pennsylvania avenue, Westminster. He was in his 64th year and had been ill several months from complications.
Dr. Patterson received the degree of doctor of divinity from Le Noir college, Hickory, N.C. At time of death he was serving as president of the Carroll county ministerial union, president of the Maryland Sunday School association, and missionary president of the middle conference.
During his active ministerial career he served charges at Woodsboro, Md., Berlin, Pa., Philadelphia, Coatsville, as secretary of the home mission board of the United Lutheran synod in the south, in Charlotte, N.C. a second time at Woodsboro, and for the last five years in Carroll County where his charge consisted of St. Benjamin's (Krider's) and St. John's (Leister's) Lutheran churches.
Burial Saturday
He was a son of the late Anne and Robert Patterson, Salisbury, N.C. and is survived by his wife who before her marriage was Miss Clara E. Schwartz, daughter of Levi Schwartz, near Gettysburg; also by three daughters: Mrs. J. Ira Laird, Harrisburg; Mrs. Fred A. Hoffman, Haver de Grace; and Miss Winifred, at home, and by one sister, Mrs. Henry C. Lentz, Salisbury, N.C.
Funeral services in Grace Lutheran church, Westminster, Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment at Gettysburg. Arrangements for the funeral in charge of the officers of the conference and synod.
