CENTER POINT -- John T. Bumgardner, 77, a retired garage man, died Friday evening in a Cedar Rapids hospital.
Born July 10, 1880, at Center Point, he was married to Grace Dye on March 26, 1907.
A member of the Center Point volunteer fire department for 40 years, he served as fire chief for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife and 2 sisters, Mrs. John Ferguson of Urbana and Mrs. Austin Roseberry of Center Point.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the First Christian church. Burial will be in the Center Point Cemetery. The body is at Murdoch funeral home here.

Leland Cantonwine, 50, Benton Farmer, Dies at St. Luke's
Leland L. Cantonwine, Benton township farmer and lifelong resident of this community, died Sunday evening at 9:50 p.m. at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids. Cantonwine, ill for a year, had been admitted to the hospital Saturday afternoon. He was 50. Mr. Cantonwine was born March 11, 1904, near Vinton, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Cantonwine. He married Marie Moubry near Shellsburg on Aug. 5, 1925. The couple lived all their life in this community and farmed on their Benton township place for the last 17 years. He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian church. Surviving are his widow, his mother, Mrs. David [Herbert] Cantonwine three sons, Donald H. (l927-1994) . . . five grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Lucille Sanders (1902-1989) and a brother, Ullin [1909-1981] Cantonwine of Vinton. Funeral services . . . .Fry Holland funeral home Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

JOHN G. NABHOLZ IS DEAD AT VINTON (Courier Special Service)
VINTON -- John G. Nabholz, 84, Benton county farmer, died Wednesday night in the Vinton hospital after a brief illness.
He was born June 15, 1870, on a farm near Brandon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nabholz. He married Mollie WIlt Oct. 17, 1894.
Surviving are four children, Mrs. Rollie Fish, O. E. Nabholz, Ray and Jay, all near Shellsburg; seven brothers ans sisters, William and Peter Nabholz, Saskatchewan, Canada; Mrs. Anna Boyd, Sunnyside, Wash.; Paul, Walker; Mrs. Mina Gilchrist, Walker; Mrs Claude Sanders, Vinton; Mrs. Pearl Bissell, Cedar Rapids.
His wife died in 1936 and he was also preceded by one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Nabholz farmed inn Benton twnship all of his adult life.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Federated church, with burial in Oakwood cemetery.
The body is at the Fry and Holand funeral home.

Death Takes John Nabholz, Pioneer Resident of County John Nabholz
Shellsburg -- John Nabholz, 84, pioneer resident of Benton county, died at six o'clock last evening at the Vinton hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Nabholz, who lived the last 57 years on the same farm here was born June 15, 1870 on a farm near Brandon. As a young man he worked on farms in the Blairstown and Dysart communities.
Mr. Nabholz married Mary Wilt of Shellsburg Oct 14, 1894, and they farmed on Benton county farms three years before moving onto the farm where he lived until his death. Mrs. Nabholz died Jan 22, 1936
Surviving are four children Mrs. Mayme Fish and O.E., Ray and Jay Nabholz of Shellsburg; several grandchildren and three brothers and four sisters. Will and Pete of Canada and Paul of Walker; Mrs. Claud Sanders of Vinton, Mrs Wayne Bissell of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Mina Gilchrist of Walker and Mrs. Anne King Boyd of Sunnyside Wash., a brother David Nabholz and two sisters, Mrs. Cassie Smouse and Mrs. Mary Thomas preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. L.V. Pardon at the Federated church here Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body is at the Fry and Holland funeral home in Vinton, where friends may call after tonight and untill 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
