Charles' parents were never married. Charles had younger half-sister who was also illegitimate. Her name was Annie Carl. In the 1910 Census, Sarah Ellen Carl and her mother were living together (apparently her father had passed away) with no children in the household. The box for "Deaf and Dumb" was checked for both Sarah and her mother. Charles and his half-sister, Annie, were living with the family of Charles and Myrtle Fissell and listed as "bound boy" and "bound girl." Both had been given the "Carl" surname. At some point Charles middle initial changed from "S" to "C." It is believed that the "C" stood for "Carl."

OBITUARY - Wilson Cook (father of Charles Sylvester Cook) - The Gettysburg Times, October 18, 1927

Fatally stricken after he entered an automobile in which he was to have been brought to the Adams county home here, Wilson Cook, 65, a native of this county, died within a few minutes at 1:45, Monday afternoon, at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Pressel, Dillsburg R1.
Mr. Cook, who had made his home with his sister for the past two months, was to have gone to the county home because his sister is in ill health and could not care for him.
Mr. Cook was unmarried and his only survivor is his sister.
Interment in Mt. Tabor cemetery.

DOVER, May 1 - Charles C. Cook, 64, husband of Mrs. Maud S. Cook, Dover R.D. 2 died at 8:29 a.m. yesterday at Main's Convalescent Home, York.
Surviving also are four sons, Joseph W. Cook, Dover R.D. 2; Charles J. Cook, Phoenix, Ariz.; Robert J. Cook, Atlanta, Ga., and Staff Sergeant Arthur C. Cook Puerto Rico; a daughter, Mrs. Frances Burns, 523 Dupont avenue, York; a sister, Mrs. Annie Fissel, Gettysburg and three grandchildren.
A painting contractor, Cook was a member of Bethel Chapel, York.
Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Max G. Anstine Funeral Home, 1701 West Market street, York, will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Bowers, pastor of Bethel Chapel, assisted by the Rev. Harold Myers, Gettysburg. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, York.

(Geisleman) Cook. Mr. Cook is survived by a twin sister, L. Frances Burns of W. York; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Author C., Robert J. and Charles J. Cook.

My father, Arthur C. Cook was a MSgt in the USAF during the Viet Nam conflict. He did his tour of duty in 1966-67 in the jungles of Viet Nam. Dad was a proud American who loved God, his family, and his country. My brother and I and our children learned all about freedom from the stories Dad would tell of war and conflict.
Dad died June 21, 1999. The attending physician wrote on his Death Certificate that he died due to complications of exposure to Agent Orange. Of course the Air Force has denied benefits to my Mother because the AF lost his medical records, but that wouldn't have persuaded my Dad to have done anything different in his life. He was a good man, a good sergeant, a good father, husband and grandfather. He is sorely missed. God bless you Dad, and God bless America.

Robert O. Burns, 90, died Thursday, December 18, 2003, at York Hospital. He was the husband of L. Frances (Cook) Burns, with whom he celebrated a 46th wedding anniversary this past September 1st. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery, Shrewsbury. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Dwayne L. Campbell, assisted by Pastor William Farrell, both of the First Assembly of God Church, York. Mr. Burns was born September 5, 1913, in Glen Rock, a son of the late William Burns and Beulah M. (Wagner) Burns Gantz. He was a Supervisor in Quality Assurance for many years with York International, York, until his retirement in 1978. He also enjoyed a hobby of watch and clock repair for many years and had attended the First Assembly of God Church. Besides his wife, he also leaves a daughter, Lucille K. Eberly of Thomasville; a son, Robert O. Burns Jr. of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Donald R. Eberly II, Lisa L. Terrill and Deborah E. Barry; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Muriel C. Miller of York and Julia Holland of South Pasadena, Fla.; and a brother, William E. Burns of Champaign, Ill. A sister, Marion Redmond, is deceased. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403.
