John Rockford Eckstein, 75, of Creston died of cancer April 8, 2001 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastors Jerry and Bev White officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 12, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Madison County with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset.
John Eckstein was born July 1, 1925, to Lawrence and Mary (Grout) Eckstein of Winterset. A Navy veteran of World War II, he married Hazel Marie Elston on Oct. 9, 1951 in Adel. John had been a lifetime farmer. He also had worked for Farmer's Co-op for 14 years and the Madison County Secondary Road Department for 20 years, retiring from that job in 1987. He had resided in Madison County his entire life before moving to Creston in 1998. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 8142 in Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Creston; two sons, David Eckstein of DeSoto and Dale Eckstein of Lorimor; a stepson, Jerry Elston (wife Gloria) of Unionville, Mo.; a daughter Donna Eckstein of Creston;p a brother, Earl Eckstein (wife Viola) of Albuquerque, N.M.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Greater Community Hospice of Creston.

Riggins beautician suffers attack
RIGGINS -- Mabel Odell, a Riggins beauty salon operator for several years, died after a heart attack at her home Monday night. She was 68.
The daughter of E. W. and Anna Butcher, she was born in 1907 at Lucile. She was a member of a pioneer family on the Salmon River at Butcher Bar. She was divorced.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Rider of Whitebird; a son, Deward Cain of Sun Valley; four sisters, Florence Downen of Lewiston, Lavina Sullivan of Boise, Stella Bosworth of Buhl and Pauline Hoover of Twin Falls, and a brother, Clayton Butcher of Lewiston.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Riggins IOOF Hall. Burial will be at Riggins Cemetery. Hansen-Noland Funeral Home of Grangeville is in charge of arrangements.

Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Betty J. Cain of Buhl, daughter of Mrs. Mabel Fait of 1935 Warm Springs avenue, and Gerald Hopkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hopkins of Buhl, in a candle-light wedding ceremony performed by the Rev. Hartzell Cobbs in the First Christian Church.
The bride chose a white crepe afternoon dress with pastel pink and blue accessories and a corsage of pink rosebuds. Her maid of honor was her sister-in-law, Mrs. Deward Cain of Buhl, who wore a pink crepe dress and a corsage of white carnations. She was given in marriage by her brother, Deward Cain.
The best man was Gordon Carlson of Buhl. The usher was Dick Thomas, also of Buhl. Mrs. Hopkins, mother of the bridegroom, chose a light blue crepe dress with white accessories and a corsage of white carnations. The bride's mother wore a teal blue street dress with black accessories and a corsage of red rosebuds.
Mrs. Duane Mahochick of Buhl sang "Because" and "Always," accompanied by Mrs. Ada Huston, also of Buhl.
A reception was held in the Owyhee hotel. Mrs. Deward Cain cut the marital cake. Mrs. Roy Pearson of Boise, poured, and Mrs. Everett Hustead of Buhl, served. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Twilegar of Horseshoe Bend, Mrs. Pauline Erickson of Twin Falls, aunt of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. William Bosworth of Buhl, aunt and uncle of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hustead, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hustead, Mrs. Duane Mahochick, Mrs. Cora Carlson and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hopkins, all of Buhl.
The bride is a graduate of the Buhl high school and attended the University of Idaho at Moscow for one year. The bridegroom was graduated from Buhl high school and served as an army engineer for five years.
The couple will live in Buhl where he is employed by the Amalgamated Sugar Company.

Audrey Cain March 27, 1927 - July 2, 2009
Audrey Cain died at her home Thursday morning, July 2, 2009, with her husband and family, under the care of Hospice of the Gorge. She had been battling cancer for some time and finally had to give up the fight.
Audrey was born March 12, 1927, in Buhl, Idaho, to Everett and Lovell Hustead, where she also married her husband, Deward (Dude) Cain. She owned her own beauty salon, and after Audrey and Dude retired they bought a fifth-wheel and traveled the country and eventually followed their two boys to Hood River in 1989.
Audrey loved to stitch beautiful embroideries and many of her friends and family will remember her forever through the artwork she gave to them. She always greeted everyone with a hug and a smile and words of encouragement. She will be missed.
Audrey was a loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dude; her three children: Pamela and her husband, Selway Mulkey, of Pahrump, Nev., Rick and his wife, Elise Cain, of Mt. Hood, Ore., and Darrell and his wife, Sharon Cain, of Hood River, Ore.
She had four grandchildren: Derek Mulkey, of Palo Alto, Calif., Justin Mulkey, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Trevor Mulkey, of the World, and Elliot Cain, of Mt. Hood, Ore.; five great-grandchildren: Zachary, Seth and Eli Mulkey, of Colorado Springs and Sam and Emily Audrey Ruskin Mulkey, of Palo Alto, Calif.
The Cain family would like to express their thanks to Hospice of the Gorge for the tender care that they showed to Audrey and would ask that in lieu of flowers anyone interested would donate to the Hospice of the Gorge.
