Joseph Earl Kulick1,2,3,4,5,6
M, #52664, b. 10 July 1899, d. 11 February 1977
Parents
BASIC FACTS
Joseph Earl Kulick was born on 10 July 1899 in Probably Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota.1,7 He and Mabel V. Butcher were married before 1940. He died on 11 February 1977, at age 77, in Lane Co., Oregon.7,8 He was buried in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon.9 Joseph Earl Kulick had reference number 52979. He was enumerated on the census in Hennepin County, Minnesota (1900); Ramsey County, Minnesota (1920); Valley County, Idaho (1930); Ada County, Idaho (1940.) He was a Laborer - logging camp (1930); barber - barber shop (1940.)1,3 His Social Security Number was 518-09-6561, issued: Idaho, last residence: Eugene, Lane Co., Oregon.7 World War I, U.S. Army, Corporal, entered service 19 Jun 1918.10 He was educated Completed 8th grade.2 There are a number of genealogies that show Mabel V. Butcher married to Joseph E. Kubick. I believe that this is in error. The error was initially caused by a transcription error in the 1940 Census. In this census record Joseph's surname is clearly spelled "Kulick." The "Kubick" spelling error was compounded by a Social Security Death Index record for a Joseph E. Kubick who was assigned his Social Security Number in Pennsylvania. This is a red herring. There is no evidence that this Joseph E. Kubick ever lived in Minnesota or Idaho. Reinforcing the "Kulick" spelling, there is a 1943 Idaho Statesman article that mentions Deward Leroy Cain and refers to his mother as Mabel V. Kulick.
So, our Joseph Earl Kulick was born in Minnesota and lived there with is family until after 1920. He then moved to Idaho where, in 1927, he married Alpha Louise Swanson. In the 1930 Census, Joseph and brother, Thomas Kulick, were working in a logging camp in Idaho. In this same census, Anna (Swanson) Kulick was living with her parents. Sometime before 1940 he married our Mabel V. (Butcher) Cain. They divorced before 1947. Finally, our Joseph Earl Kulick died in Oregon and was buried in the Willamette National Cemetery there.
