Gone Home. The Angel of Death visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Powell April 13th and bore away the spirit of Mary Bulah, their oldest daughter, age 14 years 4 months and 11 days.
Mary had been sick for for two weeks, but was thought to be improving, and her parents and friends were much comforted with the thiought that she would soon be well again.
She seemed to realize her condition however and stated a number of times during the last week of her illness that she would never recover and made several requests concerning her funeral and burial. Mary had been converted and was a candidate for membership in the Methodist church but on account of sickness in the family, had not had the privilege of receiving the vows of the church.
She had a peculiarly sweet and amiable disposition and was a general favorite among her associates. She will be sadly missed in the home, the Sunday school and the Public school.
Her funeral was preached at the Methodist church Monday afternoon by Rev. Ham to a large audience of sorrowing relatives and friends, her Sunday school class acting as honorary pall bearers.
Mary has left us, and while we know that she will never return, we know that she is with Jesus, and is wating to welcome us Home where there is no parting.

OBITUARY - The Pullman Herald, Pullman, Washington; Saturday May 02, 1896; page 1.
KILLED IN A MINE
W. M. KITZMILLER MEETS ACCIDENTAL DEATH
BURIED IN A CAVE-IN, IN HIS PLACER MINE
W. H. Kitzmiller, for many years a resident in this vicinity, was killed at his mine on the Clearwater river last Monday morning.
He was at work with two other men at the placer mine, about three miles from Harpster, and a bank of sand and gravel which he was cutting away caved in, and buried him beneath its mass. His companions put forth every effort to rescue the unfortunate man, but when they reached him life was nearly extinct, and he lived but a few minutes after being removed from beneath the rock and earth. From marks on his head, it was believed that a rock struck him in the temple, and that he was unconscious from the first.
The remains were brought to Pullman by team, arriving here Wednesday evening, and the funeral was held Thursday, at one o'clock, from the Congregational church, the sermon being preached by Rev. Farquhar. The funeral was most largely attended, as the deceased and his relatives had many friends and sympathizers in Whitman County.
William H. Kitzmiller was born in Rappahannock county, Virginia, Oct. 22, 1859. In 1873 he removed with his parents to Oregon, and later to Walla Walla, Wash., coming with them to the Palouse country, in 1878. In 1879 he was happily converted at a revival meeting held in what was then called the Branham school house, joining the Baptist church. Later he removed near Pullman, and united with the Congregational church. Since his conversion he had led a consistent Christian life, being closely identified with the church work, and an earnest worker in the Y. P. S. C. E. He was a loyal, genial young man, who always made many friends, and genuine sorrow was expressed by the entire community at the announcement of his untimely death. He leaves a mother, Mrs. V. A. Kitzmiller, who resides near Pullman, and four sisters and one brother, his remains being interred at Whalan by the side of his father.
For the past two years he had been operating a placer mine on the Clearwater river, near Harpster, and among the people of that vicinity he had also made many friends. The following letter was sent by Mr. and Mrs. O'Bannon, of Harpster, to the relatives of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. O'Bannon and Mr. and Mrs. Oliver having prepared the body for its long journey across the mountains to Pullman:
"Having been intimately acquainted with W. H. Kitzmiller, the deceased, for more than three years, we extend to you our heartfelt sympathy. We know you have lost a loved one while we have lost a good friend and a loyal citizen. He has spent many a pleasant evening with us during the past winter, our door being always open to him. He seemed to enjoy coming to our house to sing with us. We did everything we could for his body in getting it ready to send to you. Again we extend to you our heartfelt sympathy in your bereavement,"

THIRD BATTLE OF BULL RUN
There are some mighty good foot-racers in the vicinity of Pullman. This discovery was made last Thursday by a certain black bull, the property of Ed Kitzmiller.
The bovine was cooling himself at a spring in the pasture when he got in the mud and water beyond his depth, and when was discovered by a farmer was all in. The assistance of the neighbors was called in, and the animal was hauled out of the mud and placed on terra firma again.
The warming rays of the sun soon made the bull look like new, and Ted Matthews threw a clod at him to see if he was still alive. He was! And to emphasize the fact that he didn't want to be disturbed the next time he was taking a bath, he stood upon his feet, shook his head, and made a flying leap at his rescuers.
Fred Rodeen and his son started for a distant fence, but the former was probably fouled in starting for the bull caught him just before the fence was reached and struck him a terrific blow in the left side. After a free for all Rodeen, with the bull's aid, joined his son on the opposite side of the fence, when the bull looked for new worlds to conquer. Messrs. Matthews and Simpson were sprinting in an opposite direction for a straw stack so as to have something soft to land on when they came down, but by making a good finish they gained the top of the stack just as the bull got at their heels. The two men were rescued from the stack somewhat later, not much the worse for wear, but with a great reputation among their neighbors for running.

OBITUARY - The Pullman Herald; Thursday, October 11, 1962

Pullman Pioneer of 83 Years Dies, Rites Held
Edward Duncan Kitzmiller, who saw Pullman grow from infancy, died Saturday evening in Pullman Memorial Hospital at the age of 93.
He had made his home in this area for 83 years, living in Pullman with his daughter, Beatrice Bostic the past eight years.
He was a patient at Pullman Memorial Hospital for more than a month preceding his death.
Born April 24, 1869, in Ford Town, Tennessee, he came to San Francisco with his family by train at the age of 6, then by John L. Stevens Steamer to Portland, Oregon.
The family moved by covered wagon from Oregon, crossing the Snake River at Central Ferry by ferry, arriving in this area in April, 1879. His father filed for homestead rights on the place northeast of Pullman which is now owned by the T. M. Pritchard estate. While building a home on this location the family consisting of eight lived with Mr. and Mrs. Jake Crawford in a log cabin nearby.
Mr. Kitzmiller attended school in a log school house which was located near what is now Whelan. School teachers were picked from the community and the school term was for the three months in the spring of the year. Lack of funds was the reason for the short term, and the school room was crowded with children of all ages.
The home built by his father was made of 1"x12" lumber and the shakes were made by hand.
Mr. Kitzmiller helped grade the road bed for the first Northern Pacific railroad in Pullman in the year 1888. At first, the trains caused quite a problem with the horses. In 1892 the family moved to a place two miles north of Pullman where Mr. Kitzmiller resided until his retirement about 11 years ago. The farm is now leased to Don Sodorff and Bob Whitmore.
He was a charter member of the Whelan Grange and received a Gold Sheaf 50 year membership award in 1958. He also held membership in the Pullman Seventh Day Adventist Church for 30 years, and was a charter member of the local church.
Mr. Kitzmiller was married to the former Maude Mathews in 1903 at Colfax. She died in 1917.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Bostic, of Pullman; and a son, Martin Kitzmiller of Los Angeles; eight grandchildren, including Edward Kitzmiller, Kay Wells, and Joyce Stark, all of Los Angeles; John Bostic, Pullman; Judy Kitzmiller and Betty Miralles, Longview, Wash.; Robert Lebold, Clarkston; and Lowell Lebold, Oakland, California; and 11 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a nephew, Ben Burns, of Pullman.
Two children, Bernard Kitzmiller and Mrs. Boyd Lebold, the former Louise Kitzmiller, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Kimball Funeral Home, with Elder Melvin Oss of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church officiating.
Ronald H. Bingham was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Bingham.
Pall bearers were Donald Clark, Don Sodorff, Sydney H. Hays, Kenneth Hall, Clifford W. Wexler and Wendell Gwinn.
Burial followed in the Pullman Cemetery.
Nephews and their families who came for the funeral include Eddie Casebeer of Malden, Wash.; Boyd Schlaeffer of Moses Lake, and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Enos and son, Earl, of Colfax.
