Julia Willodean Ross Charles, age 80, of Killen, Ala., died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at her residence of an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lutie Ross, and her first husband, Sam Comer. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband and caregiver of 46 years, William R. Charles, of Killen, Ala.
She was a member of Atlas Church of Christ. She worked as a dietary nurse. She was also survived by the following: daughter, Sue and husband, Jackie Chandler, of Killen, Ala.; sons, Tommy and wife, Pam Charles, of Memphis, Tenn., Jimmy Charles, of Texas; two grandsons, Jason and wife, Amanda Chandler, of Killen, Ala., Jacob Charles, of Memphis, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Charlie Chandler and Katelynn Chandler, both of Killen, Ala.; sisters, Margurite Cox, Florence, Ala., and Artilue Behel, Greenhill, Ala.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Charles will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Greenhill Funeral Home chapel, with Don McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at Greenhill Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hollis, Dr. Little, Dr. Patel and Dr. Daugherty, all the nurses at Northwest Alabama Cancer Center and hospital, and nurses of A & E Hospice and Staff.
Greenhill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Note: It seems pretty clear that Willodean was not the biological mother of the three children mentioned in her obituary.
