John S. Walker had reference number 15044. He resided in of West Virginia.1 He was a Farmer (1880); teamster (1900); contractor - houses (1910); carpenter - own business (1920); contractor - carpenter (1930.)2,3,4,5,6 He was enumerated on the census in Barbour County, Virginia (1860); Clark County, Missouri (1880, 1900); Lee County, Iowa (1910, 1920, 1925, 1930, 1940.) In several census records, John says he was born in West Virginia. He was shown in Barbour County, Virginia with his family in the 1860 Census. In 1863, Barbour County became part of West Virginia. John, his parents and siblings moved from Barbour County, Virginia to Wisconsin to Clark County, Missouri to Lee County, Iowa.

There is a tree on Ancestry.com that shows the parents of our John S. Walker as John T. and Mary E. Walker. I believe that this is incorrect. John T. and Mary E. Walker did have a son, John S. Walker but he was born in 1843 not 1853.
