Revolver by Side of Amos L. Gosnell -- Employed at Springfield Hospital
Amos L. Gosnel, a citizen of Carroll county, residing about three quarters of a mile north of Woodbine, was found dead Wednesday morning near his home with a bullet hole through his head above the temple. An old time Colt's 38-calibre revolver was lying by his side. The man evidently took his own life.
Gosnell, who was employed as a guard at the Springfield hospital, arrived at his home Tuesday morning about 9:30 o'clock and left again at 1:30 p.m., supposedly to return to his duties, his family stated. He was not seen until Wednesday morning, when his body was discovered in a secluded spot about 400 yards from his home.

Octogenarian Lawyer's Only Child Charges Fraud,
Caveat proceedings contesting the will of his father, Henry J. Broening, were filed in the Orphans' Court by H. Lyman Broening. Hollywood Cameraman, and only child of the octogenarian lawyer.
Mr. Broening, a brother of the former Mayor William F. Broening, died May 10, leaving an estate that has been appraised at $35,375.04. Mr. Browning formerly had been active in politics, once serving an elective term as a court clerk.
His will, dated October 21, 1937, left his entire estate to his second wife, Mrs. Althea E. Broening, whom he had married a year before.
The caveat filed by the son through Harry O. Levin, attorney, contested the will on four main grounds -- undue influence, fraud, mental incapacity and improper execution of the will.
Mr. Broening lived in the 3600 block of Hillsdale road. That property had been left to his second wife along with the rest of his estate. The will revealed that an ante-nuptial agreement concerning their inheritance rights had been made before the second marriage, but that he desired the agreement to be disregarded inorder to give the wife the entire estate. The will failed to even mention the son.
Note: From Wikipedia: Henry Lyman Broening (June 30, 1892 - June 6, 1983) was an American cinematographer who in 1922 was on the editorial board of "American Cinematographer" magazine and served on the board of governors of the American Society of Cinematographers. He worked on films that include "May Blossom" (1915) and wrote about the beginnings of the ASC.
