Note: This grave is thought to be that of Elsie Gosnel, daughter of Amos and Althea Gosnel. The major problem for me is that, if it is our Elsie, she died young, before her parents and yet she was buried in a cemetery with no other family members. Another, minor discrepancy is that the 1900 Census shows that Elsie was born in October of 1888, not July. There are members of another Gosnell family buried in the Mount Carmel Cemetery but they do not seem to be related to our Gosnels.

Boyd W. Gosnell, 66, Lisbon, formerly of Woodbine, but residing in Lisbon for the past year, was killed Friday at 7:30 p.m. when hit by a car in front of his home. Mr. Gosnell was crossing the road in front of his house on Route 144 when he was struck by an automobile operated by James Monroe Patrick, 18, Woodbine R. D. 2. Born in Carroll County, son of the late Amos L. and Cordelia Gosnell, he was a maintenance man for the state roads commission working out of the Sykesville office. He leaves his widow, Carrie E.; two sons, Fred, Albany, N. Y., and Leon, Sparrows Point, four grandchildren and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Charles Keefer and Mrs. Francis Smith, both of Baltimore, and Peter J., Woodbine. Services were held at the C. M. Waltz funeral home, Winfield, Tuesday at 10:80 a.m. The Rev. W. E. Saltzgiver, pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church, Woodbine, officiated. Burial was in Morgan Chapel Cemetery, near Woodbine.

MRS. SUSAN E. GRIMM
Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Grimm, 89, widow of Martin L. Grimm, died Friday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Howard Bidinger, Woodbine. She was a native of Carroll county, a daughter of the late Jesse and Ann Gosnell.
Surviving are four children: Mrs. Boyd Gosnell, Woodbine; Lawrence R. Grimm, Bellevue, N.J.; Mrs. Earl Gagle, Philadelphia, Pa.; and Mrs. Bidinger; a brother, Albert Gosnell, Baltimore; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Grimm, Woodbine and Miss Kate Gosnell, both of Woodbine; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The body is at the funeral home at Winfield, where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening. Funeral services will be conducted there Monday morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. W. E. Saltzgiver. Interment will be in Morgan Chapel cemetery, near Woodbine. C. M. Waltz, funeral director.

Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Gosnell, 84, of Lisbon, widow of Boyd W. Gosnell, died Tuesday, August 17, at the Reeder Memorial Home, Boonsboro. She was born in Morgan, Carroll County, a daughter of the late Martin L. and Susan Gosnell Grimm. Mrs. Gosnell was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Woodbine.
Survivors include a son, Leon M. Gosnell, Baltimore; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Bidinger, Lisbon; a brother, Lawrence R. Grimm, New Jersey; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Fred E. Gosnell.
Friends may call at the Waltz-Burrier Funeral Home, Liberty Road, Winfield, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 19. The Rev. William F. R. Gilroy, pastor of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Woodbine, will officiate. Interment will be in Morgan Chapel Cemetery, Woodbine.
