FARMER CITY -- Richard E. Hooser, 86, died at 8:05 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 7, 2003) at Jackson Heights Nursing Home, Farmer City.
His graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City, the Rev. Louella Pence officiating. There will be no visitation. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hooser was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Farmer City, a son of Edward Falsby and Lillie Mae Johnson Hooser. He married Clara DeVault on Feb. 27, 1939, in Covington, Ind. She died July 27, 1992.
Survivors include one son, Ronald E. (Mary) Hooser, Champaign; one daughter, Helen L. Hooser, Urbana; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Garner, Danville.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
He was a WWII Army Veteran.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and raising various types of animals.

BLOOMINGTON -- John E. "Big John" Hubbs, 74, of 840 W. Oakland Ave. Bloomington, died at 11:28 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 12, 2004) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center; Bloomington.
His funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Rev. Jim Smiley officiating. Entombment will be in Park Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Memorial home.

He was born Aug. 19, 1929, at Ellsworth, to Curtis and Nancy Hubbs. He married Dorothy M. DeVault on April 29, 1961, at Bloomington. She died Feb. 3, 1998.
Surviving are one daughter, Judy (Nicki Huntowski) Hubbs, Bloomington; two nephews, Bern and William Hubbs; and one niece, Barbara MacDonald. Grampy's favorite companions were Jed, Maggie and Muffy.
His parents and two brothers preceeded him in death.
Mr. Hubbs had attended Spirit Lifters at Eastview Christian Church, Bloomington.
He had retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglas, Bloomington, IL in 1981.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching movies at home.

She married Leon Logan Thorman on May 22, 1955, in Champaign.
She later married Ron E. Hooser on Sept. 18, 1980, in Champaign. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Greg Thorman, Danville, Mike Thorman, Commerce, Texas; a stepson, Jeffery Hooser, Champaign; two stepdaughters, Kellie Cook, Champaign, and Kimberly Stauffer, Lincoln; two daughters-in-law, Bonita Teeters, Danville, and Rebecca Thorman, Commerce, Texas; two brothers, Jack Wible, San Jose, Calif., and John Wible, Urbana; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Mrs. Hooser was a graduate of Champaign Central High School and was employed as a receptionist at The Pavilion in Champaign.
Her hobbies included bowling, fishing, and horseback riding. She was a member of the Lutheran faith.

City native dies in plane crash
A Bloomington native, H. Howard Seaman, 54, of San Diego, Calif. was one of three persons to die Monday in an Airplane crash in a field northwest of Shelbyville.
He was a passenger in a private plane.
Thomas H. Beck, 50, and his son, Thomas Beck Jr., both of rural Assumption, were also killed when the plane crashed about two miles from the runway of the Shelby County Airport.
Mr. Seaman's funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Sherwood Funeral Home, Assumption. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption.
Mr. Seaman was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Bloomington, a son of Homer and Bertha McCoy Seaman. He married Betty Lee Talbot Nov. 7, 1942, in Assumption.
He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Bertha Hadden, Kissimmee, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Carol Schrepfer, Escondido, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Louise DeVault, 715 S. Vale, Mrs. Margaret Willhite, 1107 Rosney, and Mrs. Ellen Anders, Kissimmee, one brother, Louis Seaman, Kissimmee, and three grandchildren.
He was a member of the Scott Memorial Baptist Church, San Diego, and was a veteran of World War II.
