Poem by William F. Clark
DEATH
Death is the gate that opens paradise,
Unveils the glory of God of grace;
Given wide admittence let the sons of God.
Proclaim their freedom through a Saviors blood.
Death is our best affliction to a crown,
Conveys at once a beggar to a thrown;
Makes a poor slave with heavenly princes sit,
Enthrowned in glory at immanuels feet.
Death is our best, our coronation day.
Drowns all sorrow, our cares are fled away.
Hushed into silence, life's rough billows swept.
The heirs of glory never more shall weep.
Death is the last evil, finishes all strife.
Dies to give birth to everlasting life;
Sweet reflections, all our warfare is done.
Our course well finished, our race is run.
