Prominent City Lawyer and Sportsman, 55, Succumbs to Second Heart Attack

Henson W. Schoolfield, 55, prominent Chattanooga attorney, died at noon yesterday in his home, 535 Forrest Avenue, following the second of two heart attacks in as many days.
One of this city's best known lawyers, Mr. Schoolfield had worked as usual in his office in the Hamilton National Bank building on Thursday. He suffered the first heart attack late that night and told by his physician, Dr. Carl A. Hartung, to remain in bed yesterday. He failed to rally from this second attack which began near noon yesterday.
Born in Pikeville, Tenn., July 18, 1891, Mr. Schoolfield was the son of the late William A. Schoolfield, prominent Chattanooga attorney for many years, who died suddenly at the Hamilton County Courthouse. Mr. Schoolfield entered law practice with his father here soon after his graduation from the Chattanooga College of Law in 1913. His mother, Mrs. Kitty Henson Schoolfield, resides in Dalton, Ga.
A graduate of Central High School, Mr. Schoolfield was fond of outdoor sports and was widely known among Tennessee sportsmen.
Chairman of the Chattanooga Bar Association grievance committee for several terms, he led the disbarment fight against Joe and Crawford Bean, who were suspended from law practice late in 1940 for a period of six years. In 1941, Mr. Schoolfield was elevated to the chairmanship of the Tennessee Bar Association grievance committee and won wide praise for his work in this capacity.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Range Schoolfield; a daughter, Mrs. Walter Grace, Fort Myers, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Fred Dunham, Cleveland, Tenn.; Mrs. Clifford Keho, Coin, Iowa; Mrs. Matt Bates, Dalton, a.; Mrs. O. W. Russ, Chattanooga; three brothers, Raulston and James Schoolfield, Chattanooga, and William A. Schoolfield, Washington D. C.; one grandson, Walter Grace Jr.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed last night.
