PENSACOLA, Fla. — Edna Byas Carver, age 74, went to be with her Lord, June 15, 2010, at Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, FL, following a lengthy illness.
Ms. Carver was a native of Piney
Flats, TN, and the daughter of the late Cletus and Mattie Goodman Byas. In addition to her parents, a brother, Jimmy Byas, preceded her in death in 1946. She was a graduate of Mary Hughes High School, Piney Flats, TN, and was retired in 1993, from Monsanto Corporation, Pensacola, FL, after 35
years of service.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Nichols (and husband, Randy) and Donna Carver, all of Pensacola, FL. Other survivors include two brothers, Fred Byas (and wife, Barbara), of Gray, TN, and J.C. Byas (and wife, Wanda), of Jonesborough, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Goodman Family Cemetery in Piney Flats with the Rev. Russell Ferguson officiating. Pallbearers will be
family and friends.

He was the son of the late Charles Robert and Eva Kate Smith Holly. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Flora Ida Pearce Holly and four brothers, Charles Holly, Jr., Eugene Holly, Glen Holly and Lawrence “Beardy” Holly; five sisters, Margie Carriger, Lucy Buckles, Frances Wills, Hazel Nave and Florence Fletcher.
Mr. Holly was a retired truck driver who worked both at Giant Wholesale and Fleming Food. He was a member of Doe River Baptist Church. He was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F & AM and a Scottish Rite 32 degree Mason, Valley of Knoxville. He loved to attend his church and socialize with his friends.
Mr. Holly is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Betty Jean Cross Holly of the home; five sons; Gordon Holly, Jr.; Jackson, TN; Bill Holly and his wife, Susan, Larry Holly and his wife, Joan; Garry Holly and his wife, Teresa and Eddie Holly, all of Elizabethton; three step-daughters, Debbie Lunsford and her husband, Jeff; Denise Umbarger and her husband, Joe; and Donna Burgan all of Piney Flats; eighteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a twin sister Lois “Pert” Scalf, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Holly will be conducted on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, Elizabethton with Rev. James Hawk and Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Doe River Baptist Church Goodtime Singers. Masonic rites will be accorded by the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F & AM. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service and at the residence at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 11:00 Am at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Anthony Holly, Billy Holly, Michael Holly, Andy Slagle, Brad Holly, Barry Holly, Daniel Umbarger and Aaron Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors and members of Doe River Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet the family at the funeral home at 10:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
