Earl L. Griffith BLUFF CITY, Tenn. Earl L. Griffith, 83, entered the presence of the Lord on March 24, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ann Griffith; and their children: Lynn and Judy Griffith, Ava and Larry Crane, and Kathy and Mike Houser. In addition, there are six grandchildren, Jeff and Kristen Griffith, Eric and Holly Griffith, Aaron Crane, Autumn Letendre, Anthony and Katie Crane, and Adrian and Emily Crane. There are also 11 great-grandchildren, Gunner Griffith, Olivia Griffith, Jillian Griffith, Dillon Letendre, Evan Griffith, Andrew Crane, Ethan Crane, Owen Griffith, Vincent Crane, Ella Ann Crane and Nolan Crane. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, T.K. and Zura Jones Griffith; and Capt. Brian Letenbre. A lifelong resident of Bluff City, Earl was an elder and trustee of Bluff City Christian Church. He taught Sunday school for many years. As a dutiful student of the scriptures, he was known for his profound knowledge of the Bible. Upon graduation from high school, Earl enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Camp Pendleton, Calif. After an honorable discharge from the service, he attended Milligan College where he met his wife. Earl worked his entire career for Tennessee Valley Authority, primarily at the Watauga hydroelectric dam. His love for the TVA lake systems led to the family buying a summer cottage on Boone Lake where they enjoyed boating and fishing. Earl loved nature and the outdoors. He had many pets, some being unusual like snakes and a raccoon, but he was never without a dog. People in Bluff City not only knew Earl, but also his dogs on a first-name basis. Earl had a great sense of humor and sharp wit. Throughout his lifetime, many individuals have been recipients of his humorous poems, quick jokes, and unique songs. He was also a fine musician and pianist. Often people passing along the sidewalk in Bluff City would hear the sounds of Earl's boogie-woogie piano wafting out to the street. In addition, he liked the musical standards of the big band era, and would play these songs, serenading his wife, family, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Akard, Charles Akard, Ronald Haynes, Jack Morris, George Sykes, Charles VonCannon, and Frank VonCannon. Earl's five grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Services will be held on Saturday, March 27, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel in Bluff City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with the funeral program immediately following. David Mills will be officiating with additional ministerial support from Richard Kirkland and Derek Cornett. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 on Sunday, March 28, at Shelby Hills Cemetery in Bristol Tennessee.
