John Hale
John W. Hale, 78, a seven-year resident of Glen Burnie and formerly of Arnold for 33 years, died Dec. 14 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
Born June 13, 1927, in Johnson City, Tenn., Mr. Hale graduated from Science Hill High School in 1945 and Tampa Business College in 1949. He also attended Valley Forge Christian College.
Mr. Hale served in the Navy from 1945 to 1946 and from 1949 to 1953.
He retired in 1982 after 25 years of service as a civil servant working for the federal government at the Naval District of Washington, D.C. as a budget analyst.
A member of Chesapeake Christian Center in Pasadena, he was a volunteer in prison ministries since 1968. His other interests included crossword puzzles and reading.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Ruth E. Hale; three sons, John M. Hale of Marydel, David N. Hale of Chestertown and Stephen C. Hale of Pasadena; one daughter, Deborah S. Slagle of Jarrettsville; three brothers, Joseph A. and Benjamin L. Hale, both of Gray, Tenn. and James R. Hale of Nashville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at Stallings Funeral Home, 3111 Mountain Road, Pasadena. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Chesapeake Christian Center, Pasadena. Burial will follow in Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville.

The Rev. John Hale
GLEN BURNIE, Md. -- Funeral services for the Rev. John W. Hale, 78, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, were held Monday, December 19, in Pasadena, Maryland.
Rev. Hale died December 14, 2005, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
Born June 13, 1927, in Johnson City, TN, Mr. Hale was the son of the late Thad and Mary Emma Sell Hale. He graduated from Science Hill High School in 1945; Tampa Business College in 1949; and Valley Forge Christian College in 1956.
Rev. Hale was a budget analyst for the U.S. government in the Naval District in Washington D.C., for 25 years.
He served in the Navy in 1945-46, and again from 1949-53.
He volunteered with prison ministries since 1968.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, T. Gentry Hale II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. Hale; sons, John M. Hale, David N. Hale and Stephen C. Hale, of Maryland; one daughter, Deborah S. Slagle, of Maryland; three brothers, Ben L. Hale and Joe A. Hale, of Gray, TN, and Jimmy R. Hale, of Nashville, TN; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Emmett Sawyer Killed In Mishap
JOHNSON CITY -- Emmett F. Sawyer, 42, popular professor in the East Tennessee State College department of sociology, died here last night of injuries sustained in an accident on his farm.
Sawyer, was injured Saturday afternoon when his tractor overturned on him. He died at 11:15 p.m.
Sawyer, a native of eastern North Carolina, was head of the college's Lyceum Committee and the Central Religious Council. He had taught at the college here since 1947.
Sawyer was an ordained Baptist minister.
