DONALDS Amanda Perry Donalds, 83, passed away peacefully in her home at Cypress Village, Jacksonville, FL on February 8, 2009. She was born November 18,1925 in Columbus, OH to Dr. C.L. Perry and Bethana T. Perry. Amanda attended St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA, as a boarder until 1943. Her freshman and sophomore years were at Wheaton College, Norton, Mass. Amanda transferred to the University of Wisconsin her junior year. There she met, John E. Donalds, her future husband. In 1948, they lived in Boston where John attended Harvard Business School. In 1950, John accepted a position in at Dow Chemical Company in Midland, MI where they lived, between transfers until 1985. At which time they moved to Concord, Mass until 1994 where John and Amanda moved to Florida for the winters and spent their summers in Charlevoix, MI. Amanda was a homemaker, an avid reader, a championship golfer, a needle pointer and an inquiring cook. She was a past member of the Junior League. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John E Donalds II; daughter, Katherine (Kate) Stone; son, John (Jack) Donalds III and her sister, Linda Cheek. She is preceded in death by her daughters, Linda Voll and Elizabeth Donalds. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13th in Christ Church San Pablo, 2002 San Pablo Rd. John E. Donalds II, 85, passed away peacefully at The Lodge Care Center in Loveland, Ohio, on March 4, 2010.
John was born Feb. 17, 1925, to Helen T. Donalds and John E. Donalds in St. Croix Falls, Wisc. John served in World War II as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. Upon his honorable discharge as second lieutenant, John received his bachelor of science chemical engineering degree from the University of Minnesota and his masters degree from the Harvard Business School.
John enjoyed a long and illustrious career with The Dow Chemical Co. in Midland. He retired in 1985 as the manager of the Genetics Research Division to become the CEO of Collaborative Research in Lexington, Mass. An avid sailor all his life, John officially retired to his homes in Stuart, Fla. and Charlevoix in 1987. John is survived by his daughter, Katherine D. Stone; his son, John E. Donalds III; grandchildren, Paul J. Hopkins, Jeffrey R. Hopkins, Stephanie M. Donalds, and Christopher J. Donalds; and great-grandchild, Kerry N. Hopkins.
