Lyndon Wren Sisk, 88, of Marion, died Tuesday evening, April 30, 2002 at Autumn Care. Born in Pinnacle Community of McDowell County, he was the son of the late W. B. and Pearl Sigmon Sisk.
A retired electrical contractor and past member of the National Electrical Contractors Association, he celebrated life as a devoted husband, father and grandparent and faithfully served many years as Deacon to Nebo Baptist Church as well as Dania Heights Baptist Church of Dania, FL. He was currently a member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Howard Sisk, Fred Sisk and Clyde Sisk and his sisters Elsie Sisk Burgin, Cordellia Sisk Simmons and Ruby Kennedy.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Anna Simmons Sisk, daughter Lynda Sisk Handy and husband Leland, son Jerry Wren Sisk and wife Lee of Marion; brothers J. Albert Sisk and wife Dolcie, Ralph S. Sisk and wife Virginia, sister Clete Sisk Byrd, all of Nebo, and sister Hazel Sisk Watkins of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Leland R. Handy, Jr. and wife Donna of Pembroke Pines, FL, Richard L. Handy and wife Marian of Miami, FL, Cherl Handy Rock and husband Scott of Marion, Scott W. Sisk and wife Melanie of Morgantown, WV and Jenni Wren Sisk of Hickory, NC; eight great grandchildren, faithful and loving brother-in-law John F. Dyson of Statesville, NC and devoted friends Reid Good, Jr. and James Hall of Marion.
The funeral was held by the Rev. Douglas K. Prevette, assisted by the Rev. Billy E. Stockton, at 2 pm, Friday, May 3, 2002 at Cross Memorial Baptist Church. The men of Barreca Sunday School class of Cross Memorial Baptist Church served as Honorary Pallbearers.
The family received friends from 6-8 pm, Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Kirksey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cleet Sisk Byrd, age 85 of Marion, N.C. died on Monday, September 23, 2002 at the Brian Center Nursing Care Center in Hickory.
She was a native of McDowell County, born on July 6, 1917 to the late Benjamin and Pearl Sigmon Sisk.
She was a member of Nebo First Baptist Church and was retired from Southern Devices of Morganton, NC.
Her husband, Thad Byrd, three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Byrd Lewis of Hickory; one son, Harold D. Byrd of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Keith Byrd of Columbia, SC, Regina Smith of Pennsylvania, Kimberly Massagee of Hickory, NC, Pamella Reed of Hickory, NC and Teresa Huffman of Conover, NC; one sister, Hazel Watkins of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Albert Sisk and Ralph Sisk both of Nebo; nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Byrd will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Nebo First Baptist Church with Pastor Joseph McGaha officiating.
Interment will be in Nebo First Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 from 5 – 7 PM at Westmoreland Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Nebo First Baptist Church, 5360 U.S. 70 East, Nebo, NC 28761.

DURHAM -- Hazel Sisk Watkins, of 3717 Darwin Road in Durham, died peacefully at home with family at her side on Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Hazel was born on April 2, 1919 and raised in Marion, NC. She lived most of her adult life in Raleigh.
She is survived by her brother, Ralph Sisk (Virginia); daughter, Katharine Harrod (Bruce); grandchildren, Jennifer Harrod (Scott de Marchi) of Mebane, Jason Harrod of Carrboro and Michael Roebuck (Katia) of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Daniel de Marchi and Corwin de Marchi; a dear friend of 54 years, Manohar Kataria.
She was predeceased by her former husband, James E. Watkins, of Raleigh. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Sisk and Pearl Shell Annie Sigmon Sisk, of McDowell County; her daughter, Nancy W. Roebuck; her son-in-law, Michael Roebuck; her brothers, Albert Sisk, Lyndon Sisk, Howard Sisk, Fred Sisk, Clyde Sisk, and David Sisk; her sisters, Cleet Byrd, Corda Simmons, Elsie Burgin and Ruby Kennedy.
A devoted mother and a grandmother who took great joy in her grandchildren, Mrs. Watkins' life was marked by love, loyalty and the way in which she met adversity with courage, perseverance, and a wry sense of humor. She drew strength throughout her life from her strong Christian Faith. A long-time Raleigh resident, Mrs. Watkins' was a committed member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, attending First Alliance Church on East and Lane Street, and later attending North Ridge Alliance Church, where she worshipped for 30 years. She adored music, playing the guitar and singing in and directing mixed quartets, trios and choirs. She directed her church's children's choir for 20 years and was a founding member of the Live Oaks, a ministry for those over 50. Mrs. Watkins was a gifted seamstress, making her granddaughter's wedding dress and other beautiful clothes for her family and friends. She also indulged in more fanciful works, like a ceramic George Washington doll dressed in a richly detailed colonial costume which won a blue ribbon at the North Carolina State Fair.
Mrs. Watkins was justly proud of making her own way in the world. Before she was out of her teens, she worked as a looper in a hosiery mill. After moving Raleigh during World War II, she worked for Briggs Hardware, where she was the first female employee, then at Nationwide Insurance, where she was an underwriter. In 1960, Mrs. Watkins opened Western Lanes Restaurant on Hillsborough Street, where she served for decades as a surrogate mother to many North Carolina State University students who saw the restaurant as a second home. She owned and managed the restaurant until her retirement.
She will be dearly missed.
Family will receive friends 6:308:30 p.m. Friday evening at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue.
A celebration of her life will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2007 at North Ridge Christian and Missionary Alliance Church (7601 Falls Neuse Road). Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
