She was enumerated on the census in Washington County, Indiana (1850); Floyd County, Indiana (1860): Washington County, Indiana (1870, 1880); Linn County, Kansas (1885.) She was a Milliner (1885.)³ The evidence that the Mary E. Rodman that married William M. Tilford is the daughter of Dr. James Rodman and Martha Elizabeth Burton is pretty slim. There is an 1850 Census record that shows the family of James, Elizabeth and their children. There is a Mary Rodman, born ~1831, listed as one of their children. In this record, James says he was born in Pennsylvania and Elizabeth says she was born in Virginia. In a number of genealogies (all seem to have copied the information from one another), James is said to have been born in Kentucky and Elizabeth said to have been born in Virginia. So we know that James was either born in Pennsylvania or Kentucky but we're sure Elizabeth was born in Virginia. In the 1880 Census record where Mary is shown living with William M. Tilford, Mary says her father was born in Kentucky (pretty good) and her mother was born in Indiana (bad). There is one more connection of sorts. The Mary Rodman shown in the 1850 Census record had an older sister, Martha Ann Rodman who married Joseph Cadwallader. This Mary Rodman was shown living with the family of Joseph and Martha Ann (Rodman) Cadwallader in the 1860 Census. All this really proves is that this particular Mary Rodman did not die and was still single in 1860.
