Melvin G. Overbay Jr., 42, east Kansas City, died July 29, 1993, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Earp & Son Truman Road Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to Mrs. Overbay to defray funeral expenses. Mr. Overbay was a lifelong area resident. He was a mechanic and carpenter. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Overbay of the home; three sons, Ben Overbay, Torrington, Wyo., and Justin Overbay and Jason Overbay of Independence; three daughters, Trina Overbay, Trenton, Mo., Jennifer Overbay, Douglas, Wyo., and Jackie Overbay, Greensboro, N.C.; his parents, Melvin Overbay Sr. and Carole Overbay of Kansas City; three sisters, Kathy Sams, Excelsior Springs, Deborah Overbay, Los Angeles, and Cindy Ridenour, San Lorenzo, Calif.; his maternal grandmother, Julia Lathrop, Lenexa; and a granddaughter.
