KINSTON -- James Johnston Russell, Sr. 83, of Kinston, passed away Tuesday September 25, 2007, at Kitty Askins in Goldsboro.
James served in the US Army Air Corps as a P51 Mustang Pilot in the Pacific Theater during WWII, and worked with the Austin Company for 48 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and a volunteer with Mary's Kitchen.
His wife, Peggy H. Russell preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2007, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with Rev. A. Michael Singer officiating. The burial will follow at St. Francis' Garden.
Survivors include his sons, James J. Russell, II and wife, Hazel of Rogers, AR, Michael L. Russell and wife, Vickie of Versailles, KY, and Christopher C. Russell and wife, Stephanie of Clemmons, NC.
Also, survivors include his grandchildren, Tate Russell Jackson, Kelly Russell, Michael Russell, James J. Russell III, Katie Russell, and Griffin Russell; and many nieces and nephews.
He also left many close friends, among them are, Bud Hale, and Charlie Franklin.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 800 Rountree St., Kinston, NC 28501 or to 3HC, 655 Sussex St. Kinston, NC 28504.
Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
