Nancy J. Cortelyou, 76, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 31, 1939, to Jesse W. “Jay” Simpson and Dolly K. (Wagner) Simpson in Shelbyville. She married George D. Cortelyou on Dec. 13, 1981, and he preceded her in death Aug. 1, 2006.
Survivors include daughter, Jeanetta K. Gose of Franklin; son, Timothy J. Hicks and wife, Rita, of Shelbyville; brother, Bill Simpson and wife, Sandy, of Texas; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and best friend, Vera Wilson of Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Ronald Dean Lamb; brother, Bob Simpson; and sister, Diane Stroup.
Mrs. Cortelyou was a lifetime resident of the area.
She graduated from Waldron High School.
She was a bartender at the Moose Lodge and American Legion Post No. 70 for 27 years. She also was a self-employed seamstress for 30 years.
Mrs. Cortelyou was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She loved going to the casino and spending time with her family and two dogs, Keesha and Maggie.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating.
Burial will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
Memorial contributions may be given to Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter, in care of the funeral home.

Ronald D. Lamb, 44, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
He was born Nov. 15, 1969, to Donald E. Lamb and Nancy S. (Simpson) Cortelyou in Rushville.
Survivors include his father, Donald E. Lamb and wife, Mary, of Greensburg; mother, Nancy J. Cortelyou of Shelbyville; brothers: Tim Lamb and wife, Rita, of Franklin; and Todd Lamb; sisters, Jeanetta Gose and Darla Lamb; best friends, Chris Southworth and Adam Land; several nieces and nephews; and canine buddies, Bear and Bo.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, George D. Cortelyou.
Mr. Lamb graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1987.
He was a self-employed farmer. He worked as a machinist at Custom Machine in Shelbyville for 19 years before starting his own machine shop, R&R.
Ron loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, trapper and loved archery.
He will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors.
Ron requested no public services.
A private service will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.
