She was a Nurse - private family (1930.)3 Over the years Vadna's birth year varied quite a bit. In the 1880 Census she is living with her parents and is shown as being born about 1875. In the 1900 Census she is living with her brother, John F. Rutherford, and is shown as being born in October 1877. In the 1910 Census she is living with her much younger husband and is shown as being born about 1879. In the 1920 Census she is shown being born about 1877. And finally, in the 1930 Census, Vadna is shown as being born about 1881. Her grave stone says she was born in 1880. Since she was clearly born before October 1880, I have chosen to use the October 1877 date given in the 1900 Census.

Louise died in 1953 and it appears as if Tessa and three of her siblings were raised by Ralph and Hazel (DeBaun) DeVault.
There is a 1994 Kentucky marriage record for a Tessa S. Pursley to a James E. Brierly. I strongly suspect that this is our Tessa. It was probably a short-lived marriage. James died on 31 Jan 2017 and his obituary does not mention a second marriage suggesting that everyone involved decided to forget about it.
