ATHLETIC COMPETITION

In December 1920, Howard obtained a passport to travel to England for an athletic competition. He sailed on the ship Aquitania. The athletic director of Cornell University vouched for his identity. He returned to New York on 11 Jan 1921 on the ship Kaiserin Auguste Victoria. In the 1921 Cornell University Yearbook he is shown as a varsity Cross-Crountry Runner.

Howard Vincent Bonsal, 91, Lee's Summit, died July 21, 1993, in the John Knox Village Care Center, Lee's Summit.
Cremation with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery, Wellsville, Ohio. Mr. Bonsal was born in Lansdowne, Pa., and moved to Lee's Summit in 1975.
He was a civil engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the John Knox Village Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Cornell University. Survivors include his wife, Margaret I. Bonsal of the home.

Larry E. Pursley, 60, of 10540 Taylor St., Dupont, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at St. Vincent Jennings Community Hospital in North Vernon.
He was born Nov. 11, 1943, in Greensburg, the son of Harold G. and Freda Hermesch Pursley. He lived for many years in the Shelbyville area before moving to the Hanover area in 1974. He was a former employee of Rotary Lift. He was later employed in the kitchen and maintenance department at Hanover College from 1976 to 1991. He attended the Hanover Baptist Church, and was a former member of the American Legion, Jefferson Post 9. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Surviving are one daughter, Amanda Sue Pursley, and one son, Jeremy Edward Pursley, both of Dupont; his mother, Freda Hermesch Pursley Buckler of Shelbyville; two sisters, Sharon Dick of Dunnville, Ky., and Shirley Polston of Shelbyville; one brother, Harry Pursley of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Feb. 16, 1974; and his wife, Tessa Sue Pursley, May 29, 2002.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral Home, with burial in Hanover Presbyterian Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Honor Guard of the American Legion, Jefferson Post 9.
