Martin Keefhaver1,2,3
M, #48296, b. 11 February 1827, d. 22 January 1856
Parents
BASIC FACTS
Martin Keefhaver was born on 11 February 1827 in Tennessee.1,4 He died on 22 January 1856, at age 28, in Probably Macoupin Co., Illinois.4 He was buried in Range Cemetery, Palmyra, Macoupin Co., Illinois.4 Martin Keefhaver had reference number 48603. He was enumerated on the census in Washington County, Tennessee (1930), El Dorado County, California (1850.) Martin traveled to California, probably in 1849, to try his luck in the California gold fields. He and Joseph Darnsworth (possibly a friend from Tennessee) had a mining claim in El Dorado County and are shown there in the 1850 Census. Martin's father died a year or so after Martin left for California. Not long after that Martin's mother, and the children remaining at home moved to Macoupin County, Illinois. Many of their neighbors also made the move to Macoupin and nearby counties in Illinois. A couple of years before his death, Martin rejoined his family in Illinois. Martin and several of his siblings died young. His sister, Louisa, died of consumption (tuberculosis). It is my guess that Martin also had tuberculosis, knew he was dying and traveled to Illinois to be with his family.
WILL - LDS Film #1320088 page 95. Ezikeil H. Ross is listed as a witness in the will of Martin Keefhaver, 18 January 1854.
