Dear friends and family.
It is Saturday morning and I woke up this AM to Norm having a very high fever, and unable to get out of his recliner and make his legs move.
Rosemary is here and we tried several times to get him to stand and walk to the bed, but weren't successful. We did manage to change his clothes and cool him down some but no luck with getting him more awake. I plan to call the non-urgent fire department to put him in bed. He has told me several times (with much prodding) NO to "do you want to go to the Hospital"? I did tell him 'then you may not have much time here' and he was ok with that, but who knows how much he is comprehending. I was able to get his pills in with applesauce so we will see what comes.
I just wanted you all to know that he may not come out of this and it just may be the beginning of the end. Sorry for this long rambling email, but, please pass this on to anyone you know that would want this information. I love you all and I can feel your love, support, prayers, 'green healing thoughts' or whatever else it is you do to support healing. I will try to update you daily. Love, Evie.

Next day update:
The Energizer Bunny is back! About an hour after I wrote yesterday, I was able to get some Tylenol and pills in Norm with applesauce and his fever started to come down. Rose and I got him into bed by about noon and then about 3 he woke up, said "I think my fever is less", he wanted breakfast about 4 and then stayed awake and watched a movie with our hired caregiver so Francie and I were able to go to the Jazz festival for the evening. Today he is his old self with his usual inch by inch decline. He wrote out a card for me and left it at my place on the table. Handwriting VERY shaky but sweet. SO, thanks for all you guys, again, green healing thoughts, prayers, and everything else. He has let me know many, many times he doesn't want to go to the hospital, so will honor that and let the body do what it does again and again. Thanks guys, I love you all. Subject: Norm update.
I know I have not updated you all for a very long time and it is due. Norm had been in the Mercy Hospice program from June 2011 until February 2012. The last 2 month period his weight had stabalized and he was again considered Chronic. (What a term? I guess life is Chronic.) He has continued to decline, he is again losing weight, but can't stand or step up onto a scale enough to be weighed so I can only tell by how much muscle mass he has lost. He continues to lose short term memory and often wants to know things like----"now when did I come here"? And he seemed surprised when I told him we bought the house in 1985 and no there aren't any others living here. He knows all about his former years, and still enjoys reading, although it is more about him 'needing' to have a book going than him actually reading much. Takes him a lot longer now to actually finish a book, as most of you know he used to read at least 3-4 books a week. Colin---he enjoyed your visit and told me about 3 days later that you had visited.....but when I said, 'yes, I was here', he seemed truly surprised. For the most part he is happy but bored so any visits or calls would be great. The incident that got me to sit at computer today is that after dinner yesterday, he came out of the bathroom just shaking and said he was cold. Temp of 100.9 I was able to get some Tylenol in him and spent most of the night sleeping with one ear open. His fever broke about 3:30 and then he slept until after 9:00AM. When he woke, he didn't remember having a fever or being 'out of it'. Which I guess is a good thing. He did ask me to check the paper and see if Oregon was playing today. Had to explain that March Madness was over (OR. didn't get in) and Football season wouldn't start for many months. Anyway, every time he has one of these medical episodes, it just makes things more real. He says often not to send him to the hospital and I won't. Please forward this to anyone you don't see on the list, doesn't mean I don't want to share--just that for some reason I don't have the addresses.
