Eleanor Louise Bitner, 90, of the Camp Creek Community, died Tuesday morning, May 6, 2014 at Durham-Hensley Health and Rehabilitation, Chuckey.
She was a native of Medina, NY. She served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, where she met Oscar Horace Bitner. They were married and following their military service they returned to the Horse Creek Community where they farmed. Mr. Bitner passed away in 1985.
Mrs. Bitner was a retired supervisor from Greene Valley Developmental Center. She was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church. Eleanor enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, and writing letters.
Survivors include three children and spouses: James and Jean Bitner of the Horse Creek Community, Susan and P.L. Kyger of the Camp Creek Community, and Tom Bitner of Tusculum; nine grandchildren: Jamie Brooks, Stephanie Bitner, Andra Love, Ashley Bitner, Jessica Bitner, Will Bitner and his wife, Ashley, Ryan Bitner and his wife, Jessica, Amanda Bitner, and Shane Foulks; nine great-grandchildren: Autumn Rhodes, Timmy Bitner, Jacob Rhodes, Caleb Rhodes, Madelyn Bitner, Haley Love, Hannah Love, Zoe Love, and Eli Love; one great-great-grandchild: Violet Rhodes; one sister.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son: Donald Lynn Bitner and by three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

A funeral liturgy will held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel. Father Jim Harvey will officiate. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Horse Creek.

The Greene County Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Bitner, Sammy Fillers, Timmy Bitner, Mike Neal, Ryan Bitner, and Garland Reaves.

Motorcyclist Don Bitner Critical
Don Bitner, 25-year-old Daytonite, was reported unconscious and in critical condition Tuesday afternoon in Kadlec Hospital at Kennewick following a motorcycle accident at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, September 3, one-half mile from Troy, Oregon.
The Dayton cyclist was a member of a 15-man group which was making a traditional mountain motorcycle ride and campout over the Labor Day weekend.
It was reported he was moving camp gear to the camping spot at Troy when the accident occurred. Dust on the road was heavy and he went off the roadway and apparently struck a large rock. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered head and neck injuries and a broken left foot. It was also reported he is experiencing some paralysis in the chest area.
When the accident was discovered, Bitner received emergency first aid from members of the riding group and was transported 12 miles by pickup truck toward Wallowa County Hospital at Enterprise, Oregon, before they were met by ambulance. The pickup was driven by Willey Ellis, guide in the Troy area. In the back with Bitner during the 12-mile ride were Mrs. Ellis, Bert Dingle Jr., Bob Yost, and Dave Leseman.
Bitner was taken the 50 miles to Enterprise then transferred to St. Mary Hospital in Walla Walla and later to the Kennewick institution.
The injured cyclist is a regular seasonal employee of Green Giant Company with duties as agriculture employment supervisor of the local labor camps in the surrounding area.

Bitner 'Holding Own;' Account Opened
Don Bitner, 25-year-old Daytonite injured September 3 in a motorcycle accident, was reported "holding his own" Tuesday afternoon, September 12, at Kadlec Hospital in Richland.
He remains unconscious and his condition is listed as critical.
To aid the family with medical expenses, an account has been opened at Seattle-First National Bank in Dayton to accept donations. Persons interested in making contributions may add money at the Dayton bank.
Bitner suffered head and neck injuries in the accident near Troy, Oregon. He was with a group making an annual mountain ride over the Labor Day weekend.

Donald Bitner Funeral Service Held Sept. 16
Funeral service for Donald Lynn Bitner, 25, of Dayton, who succumbed to injuries suffered in a September 1 motorcycle accident, was conducted Saturday morning, September 16, from the Hubbard-Rogg Chapel.
Mr. Bitner passed away September 13 at Kadlec Hospital in Richland. He suffered head and neck injuries in a one-cycle accident near Troy, Oregon.
He had been employed as a regular seasonal employee of Green Giant Company in Dayton with duties as agricultural employment supervisor in charge of the local labor camp and camps in the area.
He was born June 4, 1947, in Greeneville, Tennessee, and attended Tusculum College there where he received a bachelor's degree in business administration.
He and the former Kayla Osborne of Dayton were married here on September 18, 1969. They lived in Greeneville for one year and returned to Dayton.
Members of the family include his wife and an infant daughter, Andra Sue, at the home at 201 S. Fourth Street; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar H. Bitner, a sister, Susan Bitner, and two brothers, James and Tom, all of Chuckey, Tennessee.
The Rev. James Taylor officiated at the funeral with interment following at the family plot in Dayton City Cemetery.
