Kenneth Dean Bitner, 61, of Tusculum, died this morning at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Bitner was a retired carpenter.
He attended Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church as long as his health permitted.
Those close to him knew Mr. Bitner as a loving father and grandfather. They said he always had a smile.
Survivors include a son: Kenneth W. Bitner; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Cynthia Ricker, Patricia and Cookie Gaines, and Cathy and Bo Carson, all of Tusculum; seven grandchildren: Pam Brown, Tiffany Brown, Nikki Brown, Ashley Ricker, Zack Carson, Isaac Carson, and Noah Carson; a sister: Dessie Davis of the Horse Creek community; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Beulah Cutshaw, and Darlene Payne.
He was a son of the late Sam and Mary Ann Bitner and was preceded in death by two grandsons: Chad Broyles and Kenneth Mack Carson; two sisters: Pauline Fellers and Wilma Bitner; and two brothers: Horace Bitner and Earl Bitner.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Jeffers Mortuary and other times at the home of Patricia and Cookie Gaines.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in the mortuary chapel with interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Tim "Bo" Carson and the Rev. Oscar McAmis will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Tom Bitner, Jess Bitner, Steve Ricker, Jim Steeles, Cecil Malone, David Sexton, and David Cutshaw.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. A.K. Sen and staff, Dr. Stephen Flohr, Dr. Joseph Scott, Dr. Coy Stone, Dr. Nathan Horner, the 3rd and 4th floor nurses at Laughlin Memorial Hospital, and the staff at Takoma Home Health Care.
