She was educated Received her nusing degree from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, Toledo, Ohio (1931.)13 Violet said she was 18 years old when she married Deiser DeFrane in 1926. In fact, she was only about 15 years old.
When her daughter, Marilyn Alice DeFrane, was killed in an automobile accident, all the newspaper reports referred to Violet as Mrs. Robert Wolf/Wolfe of 652 Gentry Street. I have found no record of Violet marrying a Robert Wolf. Possibly they were just living together at the time. 652 Gentry seems to be some sort of a rooming house. At least lots of different people used that address.

OBITUARY - Journal and Courier; Lafayette, Indiana; Wednesday, November 9, 1977; Page 4 (Newspapers.com)

MRS. VIOLET CONNOLLY
Mrs. Violet Daisy Reynolds Connolly, 66, a retired registered nurse, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday in her home, 1704 S. 12th St., apparently of a heart attack.
A native of New Albany, she moved from Toledo, Ohio, to Lafayette in 1944. She received her nursing degree in 1931 from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing at Toledo.
In 1944 she was married here to Robert L. Connolly, who was a postal employee before his death in 1955.
Mrs. Connolly had last been employed at Lafayette Care Inc., WL, and prior to that she worked in a local doctor's office and Home Hospital. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and Indiana State Nursing Association.
Survivors include two sons, John D. Connolly of Indianapolis, and Kenneth K. DeFrane of Lafayette; and two sisters, Mrs. James (Naomi) Werner of Lafayette and Mrs. Edith Frazier of Frankfort.

CONSTANCE B.

Note: As far as I can tell, Violet and Constance Beatrice (Forster) Wilcox are not related.
The parentage of Daisy Violet DeFrane's children is a bit of a mystery. Violet married Deiser DeFrane in 1926. She then had two children, Kenneth Karl DeFrane (born in 1928) and Marilyn Alice Defrane (born in 1936). In 1942 Marilyn Alice DeFrane was struck by an automobile and killed. On Marilyn's death certificate her father is listed as Maurice Defrane. (Maurice, sometimes spelled "Morris," was Deiser's brother.) Kenneth DeFrane lived a full life and died in 1991. On his death certificate his father is listed as Morris D. DeFrane. Despite the death records, I'm guessing that Deiser not Maurice is the father of Violet's children. Maurice Defrane was married in 1924 and appears to have been with this wife and children through 1930. The divorce notice shown below states that Deiser and Violet divorced in 1943 and that Violet was given custody of their son, Kenneth Karl DeFrane. That still leaves the possibility that brother Maurice DeFrane was the father of Marilyn Alice DeFrane. One other complication is that neither Deiser Defrane nor Maurice Defrane are ever show living with Violet or even shown living in Indiana for that matter.

DIVORCE NOTICE - Jourier and Courier; Lafayette, Indiana; Monday, March 15, 1943; Page 9 (Newspapers.com)

Deiser DeFrane was born on 23 March 1897 in Gilly, Charleroi, Hainaut, Belgium.6,7 He was born on 23 May 1898 in Gilly, Charleroi, Hainaut, Belgium.7 He was born about 1900 in Cecil, Washington Co., Pennsylvania.1,8 He and Daisy Violet "Violet" Reynolds were married on 14 November 1926 in Monroe, Monroe Co., Michigan.1 He and Daisy Violet "Violet" Reynolds were divorced on 13 March 1943 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana.9 He died on 7 April 1947, at age 50, in Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan.8 He was buried in Union Cemetery, Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio.10 He was buried in Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, Oakland Co., Michigan.11
Some records show the DeFranes as being born in France and others as being born in Belgium. Apparently they spoke French.
Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Marriage Records show that Deiser was married to Mamie Mariah Hanks on 14 May 1918. They had a daughter, Jane Louise (DeFrane) Scribner-Kangas. Jane was born about 1919 and is shown with Deiser and Mamie in the 1920 Census.
Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Marriage Records show that Deiser married Anna Louise Towarnicka on 23 May 1921. They had a son, John DeFrane. John was born 16 May 1922. Anna and son John were not shown living with Deiser in the 1930 and 1940 Census records. In fact, I have not been able to find them listed in these census records.
Columbiana County (Ohio) Marriage Records show that Deiser was married to Nellie Scarratt on 29 Mar 1922.
Monroe County (Michigan) marriage records show that Deiser married Daisy Violet "Violet" Reynolds on 14 Nov 1926. Many genealogies (including this one) show that Deiser and Violet were the parents of Kenneth Karl DeFrane (born 8 Dec 1928) and Marilyn Alice DeFrane (born 24 Dec 1936). However, the death certificates of both Kenneth and Marilyn say that there father was Deiser's brother, Maurice DeFrane. (Maurice is often listed as Morris. He had a son whose name was John Morris DeFrane.)
In 1929, while still married to Violet, Deiser married Brigetta Gertrude Yeip. On his marriage record to Brigetta he said he had not been previously married. Deiser and Brigetta were the parents of Leon W. DeFrane. Leon was born on 26 Nov 1929. In the 1930 Census, Deiser was a boarder, living alone. Brigetta and son Leon were living with her parents.
In the 1940 Census, Deiser is living alone and Brigetta and son Leon are still living with her parents.
On 13 Mar 1943, in Tippicanoe County, Indiana, Deiser DeFrane and Violet (Reynolds) DeFrane were officially divorced. Both had intervening marriages.
Both Deiser and Anna Louise (Towarnicka) DeFrane are buried in the Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, Oakland Co., Michigan. (Cemetery Records - Columbus, Ohio, Union Cemetery Index, 1847 - 2012 say that Deiser is buried in that cemetery.)
