Jerry Richard (Obie) Obermeyer, 70, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in Pomeroy, his home for the past 14 years.
He was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Omaha, Neb., to Verga and Manford Kallemeyn.
At the age of 17, Obie joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean conflict. After his term, he and his family returned to Lincoln, Neb., where he worked for Consumer Electric. When he took a job with Pacific Gas & Electric, he and his family moved to the Bay area in California and lived there for the next 15 years. He transferred in 1978 to Sunnyside, Wash., and worked for Pacific Power & Electric there for the next 10 years. In 1988, Obie transferred to Pomeroy to finish his career and retire in a community he loved and called home.
Obie loved to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, puttering around his garage and golfing. Obie was loved by all who knew him and will be truly missed.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Dolores (Dee) Obermeyer of Pomeroy; children, Pamela Uccello of Lancaster, Calif., Susan Obermeyer of Onset, Maine, John Michael and Joy Obermeyer of Riverside, Calif., Claudia and Wayne Swartz of Venice, Calif., Lani Santos of Redding, Calif., Kurtis and Shelly Obermeyer of Yakima, Michael and Fran Obermeyer of Spokane, John C. and Suzanne Obermeyer of Yakima, Terry and Shari Obermeyer of Yakima; stepchildren, Mike and Teri Erickson of Colfax, Rick Erickson of Lewiston, Bill and Lynn Erickson of Mahomet, Ill., and Jim and Becky Erickson of Boise; 26 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Carolyn Jene Obermeyer, Marjorie Obermeyer and both of his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Richardson-Brown Funeral Home, 750 Columbia St., Pomeroy. A graveside ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, 7800 Belle Road, Sunnyside, Wash.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
