Robert W. Koster, 63, of Rapid River died Thursday, May 14, 1999, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette.
He was born Dec. 13, 1935 in Nunica, the son of John and Betty (Dykstra) Koster. He was raised in the Nunica and Spring Lake area. Following his schooling he enlisted in the Michigan National Guard for four years. He married the former Shilah Frisbie on Dec. 13, 1968.
He was the co-owner of Koster and Hamstra Builders in Spring Lake until 1973.
In 1973 he moved to Rapid River where he was self employed as a carpenter and retired in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and woodworking.
In addition to his wife Shilah survivors include:
One son Robert (Gayl) Koster of Nunica; three daughters, Bonnie Vokal of Spring Lake, Brenda (Gary) Slagle of Spring Lake, and Becky (Karel) Justian of Spring Lake; two brothers, Jack (Joani) Koster of Spring Lake, and Bruce (Linda) Koster of Spring Lake; two granddaughters, six grandsons as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
According to his wishes no visitation or services will be held. Arrangements were handled by the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.

Gayl Ann Koster, age 51, of Nunica, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at her home. She was born May 30, 1958, in Grand Haven to Jared and Melva (Stark) Gieske, and she married Robert J. Koster on September 20, 1980, in Nunica. Gayl worked in the finishing department at Versatile Wood Solutions in Nunica. She enjoyed bowling, hunting, nursery plants, and gardening. She also enjoyed golf and watching football on television. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert; her parents, Jared and Melva Gieske of Nunica; her mother-in-law, Beatrice (Len) Waldo of Spring Lake; her step-mother-in-law, Shilah Koster of Nunica; her brother, Greg (Tinna) Gieske of Nunica; and special nephew, Nathan. The service for Gayl will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 3, 2009, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Nunica with Rev. William C. Lahrman officiating.
