Sarah F. "Sue or Sudie" Boyer1,2,3,4,5
F, #17450, b. 15 February 1888, d. 29 August 1970
Parents
BASIC FACTS
Sarah F. "Sue or Sudie" Boyer was born in February 1886 in Tennessee. She was born on 15 February 1888 in Tennessee.5 She and Reece David DeVault were married between 1920 and 1929. She died on 15 August 1970, at age 82, in Sullivan Co., Tennessee.5 She died on 29 August 1970, at age 82, in Sullivan Co., Tennessee.6,7 Sarah F. "Sue or Sudie" Boyer had reference number 17719. She was enumerated on the census in Sullivan County, Tennessee (1900, 1910, 1930.) She was a Farmer - general farming (1930.)3 Her Social Security Number was 414-84-0675, issued: Tennessee, last residence: Kingsport, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.5 The evidence for the identity of Reece DeVault's wife is circumstantial, but pretty solid. William B. Gillmore, in his DeVault genealogy, says that Reece was married to a lady who's surname was "Boyer." In Reece's obituary it says he is survived by his wife so he was still married in 1929. Reece aIways lived in the Rock Springs area. This is Civil District 13 of Sullivan County, Tennessee. All the census records sited below are for Civil District 13 of Sullivan County, Tennessee. In the 1930 Census, living next door to her half-brother, Walter Edward Boyer, is Sudie Devault. Sudie is listed as a widow with daughter Glennis Cox and grandson, Kenneth Cox. In looking at the 1900 Census, it turns out that Sudie Devault is the daughter of Charles Boyer and his second wife, Judy Unknown. (Sudie's half brother, Walter Edward Boyer, is the son of Charles Boyer and his first wife.) In the 1910 Census, Sudie, listed as Sudie Cox, widow, is living with her parents, and with her four-year-old daughter, Glennis Cox. It appears that Sudie was married to Unknown Cox sometime after 1900, had daughter Glennis by 1906 and was widowed by 1910. I did not find Sudie in the 1920 Census, but daughter Glennis Cox is living with her grandparents, Charles and Judy Boyer. In 1920, Reece, still single, is living with his mother. Then, sometime beween 1920 and, say, 1928, Sudie married Reece DeVault. Sudie was again widowed when Reece died in early 1929. Listed in the 1930 Census, living with Sudie (Boyer) DeVault was George Churchwell and his son, Hal Churchwell, age 19. Hal Churchwell would eventually marry Sudie's daughter, Glennis Cox (see the obituary below).
