PINEY FLATS — LouEllen “Nancy” Torbett , age 93, passed to her heavenly home on August 4, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones.
A life-long resident and native of Piney Flats, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Nell Hughes Campbell and Curtis Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Hugh Allen Torbett; and by her brother Fred Campbell.
She attended East Tennessee State College and worked for the Department of Defense during World War II. After she married and her children were in school, she began a career at Raytheon Corporation working full time while also caring for her family. She served there until her retirement in 1968.
Nancy kept a beautiful home and enjoyed tending to her lovely flower beds and lawn. Renowned as an excellent cook, her home was a family gathering place where many wonderful meals were savored. She was an avid reader and lively conversationalist, and delighted in the visits of friends and family.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a faithful servant of our Lord.
Nancy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. The memory of her gentle spirit and wise counsel will be cherished by those who knew her.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren; daughter, Martha Snider and husband Larry Snider of Jacksonville, Florida, son, Michael Torbett and wife Louminda Torbett of Maryville, Tennessee, granddaughter, Beth Brewer and husband Jeff Brewer of Nashville, Tennessee, and grandson, Chris Cox and wife Pam Cox of Piney Flats, Tennessee. She is also survived by great-grandchildren; Kelby Arrowood, Cameron Brewer, Clark Arrowood, and Carson Cox. Additional survivors include nieces, a nephew, several cousins, and treasured friends Ed Behtz, Sarah Behtz, Linda and Glen Stipes, and Jane Garland.
Pallbearers will be Ed Behtz, Larry Snider, Jeff Brewer, Mike Taylor, Jackson Taylor, and Jay Taylor. Glen Stipes, Roy Broyles, Clark Arrowood, Kelby Arrowood, Cameron Brewer, Carson Cox, and Al Sellner will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
Nancy’s family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, Tennessee. A Memorial Service will be held immediately afterwards at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Shell Cemetery in Piney Flats on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. for a graveside service.

He was a son of the late Hugh Millard and Zeffie Zimmerman Torbett and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Torbett and Glenn Torbett. Mr. Torbett was a retired employee of Raytheon Corporation. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Torbett was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Louellen "Nancy" Torbett; one son, Michael Allen Torbett and his wife, Louminda Torbett, Chelmsford, Mass.; one daughter, Martha Torbett Snider and her husband, Larry Snider, Jacksonville, Fla.; one grandson, Chris Cox and his wife, Denise Cox, Piney Flats; one granddaughter, Beth Cox Brewer and her husband, Jeff Brewer, Charlotte NC; one great-grandchild, Cameron Brewer, Charlotte, NC; one sister, Ruth Torbett Monath, Karrettszilla, Md.; one half-brother, Warren Torbett, Piney Flats; one half-sister, Elaine Torbett Osborne, Piney Flats; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Reverend Ben Konopa will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Shell Cemetery, Piney Flats. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Cox, Bill Harrell, Eddie Campbell, Joe Hawk, Lloyd Williams, Tom Torbett, Phil Torbett and Burleigh Gray. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Geraldine Torbett, Mrs. Phyllis Hall, Mrs. Betty Skaggs, Mrs. Clara Persinger, Ed and Vickie Bates, Duane and Norma Cross, Mike and Peggy Taylor, Dr. Martin Pittman, Joe and Trish Reid, Ken and Rachel York, Richard and Elaine Brewer and Glen and Linda Stiple. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
