TORBETT, HUGH "ALLEN" PINEY FLATS -- Hugh "Allen" Torbett, 81, 168 Piney Flats Rd., died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at NHC Healthcare. Mr. Torbett was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was a son of the late Hugh Millard and Zeffie Zimmerman Torbett and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Torbett and Glenn Torbett. Mr. Torbett was a retired employee of Raytheon Corporation. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Torbett was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Louellen "Nancy" Torbett; one son, Michael Allen Torbett and his wife, Louminda Torbett, Chelmsford, Mass.; one daughter, Martha Torbett Snider and her husband, Larry Snider, Jacksonville, Fla.; one grandson, Chris Cox and his wife, Denise Cox, Piney Flats; one granddaughter, Beth Cox Brewer and her husband, Jeff Brewer, Charlotte NC; one great-grandchild, Cameron Brewer, Charlotte, NC; one sister, Ruth Torbett Monath, Karrettszilla, Md.; one half-brother, Warren Torbett, Piney Flats; one half-sister, Elaine Torbett Osborne, Piney Flats; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Reverend Ben Konopa will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Shell Cemetery, Piney Flats. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Cox, Bill Harrell, Eddie Campbell, Joe Hawk, Lloyd Williams, Tom Torbett, Phil Torbett and Burleigh Gray. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Geraldine Torbett, Mrs. Phyllis Hall, Mrs. Betty Skaggs, Mrs. Clara Persinger, Ed and Vickie Bates, Duane and Norma Cross, Mike and Peggy Taylor, Dr. Martin Pittman, Joe and Trish Reid, Ken and Rachel York, Richard and Elaine Brewer and Glen and Linda Stiple. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
