Anderson-Day
One of the most beautiful and impressive of the season's events occurred one quarter of a mile east of Canton, Wednesday, September 30th, at 8 o'clock, when Charles Francis Day and Isis Anderson were joined together in the bonds of holy wedlock. Their ceremony was performed in the front room of the bride's home in the presence of about ninety invited guests. The house was tastefully decorated with streamers of the bridal colors of pnk and white.
Mrs. Merle Hinds presided at the organ and played Lohengrin's wedding march as the bridal party descended the stairs. During the ceremony which was performed by Rev. T. J. Wilson, paster of the Salem Christian church, "Blest Be the Tie that Binds," was played very softly, and during congratulations Mendelssonhn's wedding march.
The bride was dressed in white silk with silk over lace, and wore a bunch of white roses in her hair. The groom wore the conventional black.
After congratulations, refreshments were served consisting of ice cream, cake and bananas. The cake bore the bridal colors pink and white.
The guests from a distance were Mrs. Susie Murray, of Mitchell; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Ray McPheeters and Mrs. Lorena Arnold, of Campbellsburg; Albert Morris and family, of Pekin; and Walter and Emmet Morris, of Martinsburg.
The groom is the son of William and Lenna Day, of this county, and the bride is the daughter of U. P. and Dora Anderson, of Canton. Both of these young people are of that type of character of which Washington county has a right ot be justly proud.
The many beautiful presents consisting of linen, china, and silver, speak of the high esteem in which these young people are held. We join in the congratulations of others, wishing them a prosperous and happy married life.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Day of Salem Rt. 2 celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Sunday with a dinner for family members at Heuser's Stagecoach Restaurant in Palmyra. Upon arriving in Palmyra, they were surprised to find a horse-drawn surry waiting to transport them from the north edge of town to the restaurant which is located on U.S. 150 west of town.
The Days commented that horse-drawn vehicles were very common about the time they got married back in 1914.

Snow Produces Neighborliness
Rural Family Proves 'Live' Horsepower Has Its Advantage Over Mechanized Type
In this modern age of sputnicks, rockets, missles and machinery, who would ever think of reverting back to horses for transportation instead of the super-powered automotive vehicle?
Well that is exactly what happened to some members of the Oral Day family Saturday afternoon during the height of the crippling snowstorm that hit here.
Mr. and Mrs. Day and their youngest son, Marvin, were enroute home after witnessing the afternoon session of the Salem Basketball Sectional. They live a mile or so south of Canton -- and that is all the further they got. The road was blocked by huge snowdrifts the rest of the way.
Mrs. Day stayed at the store in Canton while her husband and son waded through the deep snow to their home. Later the two returned to the store with two horses. Together all three went home on horseback -- Mrs. Day and son on one horse and Mr. Day on the other along with the groceries they had purchased before leaving Salem.
Because of the snowstorm, the Days had arrived at the opening of the afternoon session of the sectional aboard a truck which had been heavily loaded with bales of hay. But it proved to be no match for the snow-drifted roads -- and the live horse (power).
The snowstorm, among other things, promoted good neighbor policy between city and rural people. As one of the correspondents for this newspaper said: "Country people stayed in the city and the city people stayed in the country."
And that's what took place when people traveling from city to city became snowbound on the highways. They had to spend the night wherever they could find a place. The same applied to rural people attending the sectional, visiting or shopping in town.
Note: This piece was followed by a number of similar short stories about people stuck in the snow.
