Funeral services for Melvin (Deacon) Edward Jones, 59, of Animas, who died Aug 12 at Hillcrest General Hospital in Silver City, were held at the Schlander Funeral Home at Montgomery City, Mo., followed by interment in the City Cemetery there. Local arrangements were under the direction of the Curtis Mortuary.
The deceased, who had been in failing health for a number of years, was a native of Hannibal, Mo. Mr. Jones, who was a farmer and carpenter at Danville, Mo., and his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Callaway of Montgomery City who survives him, came to Silver City about four years ago and resided at Shady Grove Trailer Court while he was employed as a carpenter by various companies at Tyrone. he regularly attended the Carpenters Union meetings at Bayard while his health permitted. Mrs. Jones is currently teaching in the Animas Public Schools where she will continue until May 20, 1971, when she plans to return to Missouri.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Muriel Elaine Johnson of St. Louis; twin sons, Jerry Melvin Jones of Mexico, Mo., and Kerry Edward Jones of Columbia, MO.; eight grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Covington of New Florence, Mo.; and two sisters.

Chuck was born April 12, 1926, in Montgomery County, Mo., to Grover Cleveland Callaway and Dora Tilden (Powell) Callaway.
He served in the Army during World War II, attending basic training in Fort Sill, Okla. He was initially attached to the 535th Field Artillery Battalion of the Seventh Army for his deployment overseas. His battalion was eventually transferred to the Third Army under the command of Gen. George Patton and served at the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include wife, Dora, of Fort Lupton; sister, June Meier, of Great Falls, Mont.; sister-in-laws, Ellen (James) Callaway, of Montgomery City, Laura (Howard) Callaway, of Florissant, Mo.; sons, Charles (Amelia) Callaway, of Fort Lupton, Richard (Linda) Callaway, of Longmont, Billy Ray (Lynn) Callaway, of Greeley, Dennis (Dannette) Callaway, of Grand Junction, and Kevin (Kristan) Callaway, of Brighton; daughter, Cathy (Terry) Campbell, of Mead; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings; and daughter, Connie Lea Callaway Pease, in 1988.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m., March 16, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton. Funeral service is 10 a.m., March 17, at First United Methodist Church in Fort Lupton, followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery in Fort Lupton.
