Those calling to see Mrs. Akard recently were: Miss Vestal Barr, Mrs. Wm. Barr and Mrs. Hugh Cross of Blountville and Mrs. Joseph Wine, [wife of] her brother, of Indian Springs.
Note: Mrs. Akard was Barbara Ann (Wine) Akard (1854 - 1928), third wife of Joseph Henry Akard; Mrs. William Barr was Elizabeth Sarah Akard (1866 - 1949); Miss Vestal Barr was Ola Vestal "Vestal" Barr (1901 - 1986), daughter of William and Elizabeth Barr; and Mrs Hugh Cross was Jerusha Jane (Jones) Cross (1863 - 1935). Mrs. Joseph Wine is a bit of a mystery. Joseph Christian Wine (1860 - 1935) was born and lived most of his life in Indian Springs, Sullivan County, Tennessee. He was married three times. His second wife, Laura J. Campbell died in 1926. His third wife, Betty (or Bettie) Elizabeth (Frazier) Redwine (1884 - 1948) must have married Joseph after 1930 as she was still shown as a widow in the 1930 Census. On her death certificate Betty's married name is "Wine."

BASIC FACTS
William A. Jones was born on 14 March 1808 in Tennessee.7,2 He and Elizabeth Crussell were married about 1834. He and Martha Latture were married on 8 February 1855 in Sullivan Co., Tennessee.8,6 He died on 27 May 1882, at age 74.7 He was buried in New Bethel Church Cemetery, Piney Flats, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.6,9 He was buried in Latture Cemetery, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.10 William A. Jones had reference number 17928. He was enumerated on the census in Sullivan County, Tennessee (1860 - 1880.) He was a Farmer (1860 -1880.)3,2,4 The Jones genealogy that I received from Allie (Griffith) Nelson says that William's mother was Martha DeVault (other information says she was Nancy Margaret DeVault). I do not know which DeVault family she is related to, but she is not a descendant of Henry Dewald of Pennsylvania.
William's marriage to Martha Latture was his second marriage. His first wife, Elizabeth Crussell, appears to have died before 1850, because, in the 1850 Census, William is shown without a wife but with the following children: David (age 16), Samuel (age 14), Martha (age 12), William (age 10), Catherine (age 8), Sarah (age 6), Mary (age 4) and John (age 2). Early genealogies show additional children.

Luke XXIII 46. The first child listed in the family of William and Martha Jones is Edna P. Jones. Edna's biological parents are not known. In the 1850 Census William Jones is shown with a number of children, but without a wife. I have assumed that the mother of these children died before the 1850 Census was taken. Bible records show that William and Martha (Latture) Jones were married in 1855. Edna, born about 1852, was born at time when William Jones was between wives. It is possible that Edna was the daughter of a close relative. William, with lots of grown children around him, was in a good position to take in an infant child. In any case, Edna was raised in the family of William and Martha (Latture) Jones. Until better information is available, I have decided to list Edna under the parents that raised her.
