Mr. J.R. Hodges Sr., 89, 155 Boone Drive, Gray, TN died Thursday, December 23, 2004, in the NHC Healthcare Center in Johnson City. Mr. Hodges was a native of Piney Flats and had lived in Gray since 1969. He was a son of the late Henry Homer and Ina Mae Range Hodges. Mr. Hodges retired from Tennessee Eastman Co. in 1978 after more than thirty-six years of service. He attended the Fountain of Life Bible Church. Mr. Hodges is preceded in death by his wife, Opal Green Hodges in 1993, one son, J.R. Hodges, Jr., two sisters, Joy Miers and Sophia Elizabeth Hodges, two brothers, Homer Hodges and Justin Hodges. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Wendell Shipley of Gray, Brenda and James Lynch of Jonesborough; one step-daughter, Janet Harding of Pontiac, MI; one daughter-in-law Carolyn Hodges of Gray; one sister Christine Jenkins of Gray and one brother Graham Hodges of Piney Flats; five grandchildren, Jennifer Collins and husband Rodney, Wendy Shipley, Lee Jay Lynch and wife Gina, Carrie Hodges, Matthew Lynch and wife Tara; two great grandchildren Hannah Collins and Taylor Lynch; several nieces and nephews also survive. J.R. Hodges Jr.
J.R. Hodges Jr., 62, 263 Flourville Rd., Gray, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Johnson City medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Hodges was a native of Sullivan County and the son of J.R. Hodges Sr. and the late Opal Green Hodges.
He was a graduate of Mary Hughes High School and East Tennessee State University.
Mr. Hodges retired as a research chemist from Tennessee Eastman on December 1999 after 35 years with the company.
He was a former member of the Metro Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Hodges was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church but attended Boones Creek Bible Church.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Carolyn Glass Hodges, of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Collins, Telford, and Carrie Hodges, Gray; one granddaughter, Hannah Collins; two sisters, Ann Shipley and Brenda Lynch, both of Gray; two nephews, Lee Jay and Matthew Lynch; one niece, Wendi Shipley; and his father-in-law, Elmer Glass.
The funeral service for Mr. Hodges will be conducted Sunday, July 25, 2004, at 2:30 PM in Boones Creek Bible Church, 1528 Old Gray Station Road, with Pastor Dale Cunningham and Rev. Larcy Draper officiating.
Interment will follow in Boones Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers who are requested to be at the church by 2:15 PM will be Charles Glass, Gary Glass, Bobby Glass, Kenneth Glass, Mike Glass and Tony Glass. There is no visitation scheduled. Condolences may be made online at www.appalachianfuneralhome.com.

C. E. "Elmer" Glass, age 88, 205 Flourville Rd, Gray, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Glass was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.
He was a son of the late Walter and Minnie Fine Glass.
Mr. Glass retired from the chemical division of Tennessee Eastman Company in 1979 following thirty-seven years of service.
He was a member of Boones Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Glass was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Matherly Glass, in 2002; and one grandson, Eddie Glass Cothran.
Survivors include five sons: Charles "Shorty" Glass and his wife, Jackie, Gray. Kenneth W. Glass and his wife, Fran, Gray, Gary W. Glass, Mt. Juliet, TN, W. Mike Glass and his wife, Nancy, Gray, Robert L. "Bobby" Glass and his wife, Patsy, Elizabethton; three daughters: Carolyn Hodges, Gray, Ruth Ann Willis and husband, John, Johnson City, Betty Widener and husband, Sam, Gray; one brother, Herman Glass, Gray; one sister, Emma Sue Glass, Gray; ten grandchildren: Keith Cothran, Cape Coral, FL, Kimberly Edwards, Gray, Jennifer Hodges Collins, Gray, Jonathan Willis, Gray, Chris Widener, Piney Flats, Carrie Hodges, Gray, Kenny Glass, Gray, Laura Glass, Miami, FL, Andy Glass, Charlotte, NC, Adam Glass, Johnson City; three great-grandchildren: William Edwards, Ben Edwards and Hannah Collins; several nieces and nephews.

Arnold "Bud" Pate and Evangelist Charles :Toonie" Cash officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kieth Cothran, Jonathan Willis, Chris Widener, Kenny Glass, Andy Glass, Adam Glass, Jimmy Dalton and Lowell Sluss.
