F. D. HANNAH succumbs at home here
Frank D. Hannah, 518 E. Holston Ave., died unexpectedly at his home around 4 a.m. yesterday.
A native of Hamblen County, Mr. Hannah had been a resident of Johnson City since 1900. He was the son of the late Charles G. and Hattie DeVault Hannah.
For many years, Mr. Hannah had been in the mercantile business. He was an official of Hannah's Dry Goods Co. now Hannah-White Co., and later was owner and president of the Unaka Stores in Erwin.
A member of the First Christian Church, he had been active in many departments of his church. A deacon for some time, he had served as chairman of the board of deacons, chairman of the finance committee and had been superintendent of the Sunday School.
In addition, Mr. Hannah had been a trustee of Milligan College since 1948 and was chairman of the board for six years.
A Kiwanian, he was past president of the Johnson City Club, and a member of the Citizen's Committee of Erwin.
He was a veteran of World War I, and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Helen Tranum Hannah; one son, Frank Hannah Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.; four sisters, Mrs. W. L. Dubbs, Mrs. W. H. McDonald, and Mrs. Floyd Lockett, all of Johnson City, and Mrs. Louise Henry, Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Jimmy Hannah, Chattanooga, and Robert Hannah, Johnson City; and four grandchildren.
Morris is in charge of arrangements.

HANNAH, FRANK D. -- Funeral services for Frank D. Hannah, age 74, of 518 E. Holston Ave., who died Tuesday morning, will be held 2:30 p. m. Wednesday from the First Christian Church. Officiating will be the Pastor, Ralph E. Sims and Dr. Joe Dampler. Interment in the Monte Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 2 p. m. Wednesday, will be Steve Lacey, Harold Tapp, Howard White, Joe Jared, Lee Harr. F. L. Wallace, Haynes Lancaster, Sr., Eddie Baylor, Joe McCormick and W. F. King. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Board of Trustees of Milligan College and deacons and elders of the First Christian Church. Flower bearers will be the members of the Loyal Daughters Sunday School Class of the First Christian Church and the lady employees of the Unaka Stores in Erwin, Tennessee. The body will remain in the funeral home chapel until 1:30 p. m. Wednesday at which time it will be taken to the church to await the service hour. The family will receive friends at the home, 518 E. Holston Ave., Morris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert H. Hannah, 71, 1304 Iris Avenue, died Tuesday morning in the Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Hannah.
Mr. Hannah was a member of the Boones Creek Church of Christ.
He was formerly associated with the Hannah Brothers Wholesale Co. He was a former member of the Johnson City Lions Club.
Mr. Hannah was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys Fulkerson Hannah; one son, John W. Hannah, Titusville, Fla.; and one sister, Mrs. Louise H. Henry, Orlando, Fla.

Miss Martha L. Showalter Weds James Hannah of Johnson City
A surprise announcement is that the marriage of Miss Martha L. Showalter of Kingsport to James A. Hannah of Johnson City, which took place quietly on July 22 in Hartwell, Ga.
Formal announcements of the nuptials were placed in the mail last week by the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merle F. Showalter of Raleigh, N.C.
The popular bride and her husband are making their home in Johnson City, where Mr. Hannah is associated with Hannah's Men's Store. The couple plan to leave next week on a delayed honeymoon at Daytona Beach, Fla.
A resident of Kingsport for the past four years, where she has been well known in social circles, the bride holds a secretarial position at Tennessee Eastman Corporation. She is a graduate of the Women's College of the University of North Carolina, and has been an active member of the Kingsport Girl's Cotillion Club.
Mr. Hannah is a son of Mrs. C. G. Hannah of Johnson City, and was recently discharged after serving four years in the Army.
Several bridal parties are planned to compliment the bride. Inaugurating the functions, Mrs. Cleo Cox and Mrs. John R. Burns (Martha Thornton) joined in arranging a recent miscellanous shower party at the home of Mrs. Cox at Cliffside.
A desert course was served upon the arrival of the guests, after which tables were arranged
for contract [bridge?]. High score winner was Miss. Estelle Penn; second high, Miss Julia Pierce, and bingo, Mrs. John Ben Pectol. Later in the evening, the bride was presented a number of miscellaneous gifts for her new home.
Guests invited to fete Mrs. Hannah were Mrs. John Ben Pectol, Mrs. George Weisslinger, Mrs. Fred Brewer of Johnson City, Misses Eliza Pectol, Sybil Wimmer, Mary Elizabeth Thornton, Lucille Jennings, Emily Jennings, Estelle Penn, Julia Pierce and Meredith Pittard of Johnson City.

Fred L. Lockett Sr., 84, Rt. 14, Gray, died Sunday morning in Johnson City Memorial Center Hospital, following a short illness.
Mr. Lockett was a native of Bristol, Va., but had lived in Johnson City and Washington County for most of his life.
He was the son of Emmett C. and Pattie Jane Kidd Lockett.
Mr. Lockett was an Army veteran of World War I.
He was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a former member of the administrative board.
Mr. Lockett was a member and former Worshipful Master of the Johnson City Masonic Lodge No. 486 F/AM. He was a charter member of the Hurstleigh Club.
Mr. Lockett was a wholesale groceryman with Bristol Grocery Co., and more recently with the R. N. Lawrence Food Brokerage Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Mae Hannah Lockett, in 1973, and by one son.
Survivors include one son, Floyd L. Lockett Jr., Johnson City; one sister, Mrs. Ethelyn Cox, Johnson City; two granddaughters, Linda Lockett, Atlanta, and Mrs. Lucy Goodwin, Augusta, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
Morris-Baker is in charge.

Funeral services for Fred L. Lockett Sr. age 84, who died Sunday morning in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Richard Looney and Rev. Ernest Cushman officiating. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers who are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 will be: Blaine Cutshall, Fred R. Lockett Jr., Fred R. Lockett III, Jack Cox, Bernie Groome, Joe Wallen, Bill Deaderick, and Dick Lawrence. The family will be at the Funeral Home Monday evening from 7 until 8:30. Floyd L. "Bucky" Lockett Jr., 76, 509 Rose Avenue, Johnson City, died Thursday, August 19, 2004(sic), at his residence.
Mr. Lockett was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and a son of the late Floyd L. Lockett Sr. and Hattie Mae Hannah Lockett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Lockett.
Mr. Lockett was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, where he had served as an usher, and a member of the Solon Gentry Sunday School Class and the Administrative Board.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline Luther Lockett, of the home; two daughters, Linda Lockett Robertson, Atlanta, Ga., and Lucy Lockett Gallo, Durham, N.C., and son-in-law, Steve Gallo; and four grandchildren, Charlie Robertson, Mary Robertson, Nick Gallo and Natalie Gallo.
A memorial service for Mr. Lockett will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, in the Morris-Baker North Chapel with Rev. Lauri Jo Cranford officiating.
Music will be provided by Bill and Caroline Darden. Committal services will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Solon Gentry Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Maude Carter Luther, 95, 215 West F Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a short illness.
Mrs. Luther was a native of Randolph County, N.C., and had resided in Elizabethton since 1945. She was the daughter of the late Will T. and Dora Miller Carter and was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Luther, in 1997, and by three brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Luther received her teacher's certificate from Appalachian State, Boone, N.C., and taught in a one-room school in North Carolina. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Susan Wesley Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Caroline and Floyd Lockett, Johnson City, JoAnn Luther Oakley, Elizabethton, and Helen Taibi Ottinger, of the home; and six grandchildren, Linda L. Robertson, Marietta, Ga., Lucy L. Gallo, Durham, N.C., Nancy Oakley and John Oakley, both of Elizabethton, Kimberly Delaney, Concord, N.C., and Christopher Ottinger, Woodstock, Ga. Six great-grandchildren also survive.

Joan Luther Oakley, 78, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. She was a native of Thomasville, NC but had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a daughter of the late, Herbert L. and Maude Carter Luther. Mrs. Oakley was a retired Registered Nurse and was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include one son, John Edward Oakley and his wife, Jane of Elizabethton; one daughter, Nancy Caroline Oakley of Johnson City; two sisters, Caroline Lockett of Johnson City and Helen Ottinger of Elizabethton; two Granddaughters, Elizabeth Oakley and Olivia Oakley both of Elizabethton; three nieces, Linda, Lucy and Kimberly; one nephew, Chris; seven Great Nieces and Nephews. Memorial services will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church Chapel. The family will receive friends at the church in the Parlor from 3:00 until 4:00 pm.
